The strongest travel buddy "DR-Z400S" ⇒ the fastest on public roads "DR-Z400SM"

With its tough and luxurious construction, which could be described as a model of the enduro racer DR-Z400 with safety parts, and its high-powered engine producing 40 horsepower, equivalent to the 2-stroke 250cc at that time, and its lightweight chassis, Kaso used the DR-Z400S as his buddy to race in the Sahara Desert, trans-Eurasian Continent and other forest roads all over Japan.

The DR-Z400SM is an upgraded version of the DR-Z400S for on-road use and is featured with front and rear suspensions that are inherited from the commercially available motocross racer RM. Not only it is lightweight of 145kg and high-powered, but also has excellent suspension and cornering performance, which is why many riders used to compete in Gymkhana with the DR-Z400SM.

Unfortunately, the DR-Z400S and DR-Z400SM disappeared from the line-up due to 2008 exhaust gas regulations. The DR-Z400SM was launched in November 2004, so it was only sold in Japan for about 4 years. The number of sales is limited, and there are now many used motorcycles that are sold at prices higher than the selling price at the time.
