Honda GROM early model HACK
Here's a passionate story from Tamarin-r who rides the early model of GROM, from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK" campaign! Tamarin-r will introduce how to divert the OEM GROM early model, which he knows well because he is the owner.
A brief self-introduction
I'm an old man who discovered the joys of motorcycling during the motorcycle boom of the late '80s.
Motorcycle Introduction
I bought an early HONDA GROM, used, with 3800k miles on it.
How to enjoy your everyday motorcycle life?
I love touring down the road and if I don't tell anyone, I'll ride all day.
HACK's brief description
This is the second time I use OEM parts from GROM. The exterior was changed to Rothman's color and mirrors were changed to give it a sharper appearance, but I still thought it was a bit uncouth.
I noticed that the orange of the left and right blinker lenses from the front was the cause of the dim appearance, so I thought it would be good to change from orange to smoke-clear lenses, and I looked for it on the web. The fact that they are sold means that there is a demand for them, so I was convinced that I was not the only one who was feeling a bit tacky, but it's not fun to wear the ones that are on sale, so I searched for a genuine lens that would fit, and this is my report.
Replacing the OEM lens cover for the NC700 series
(The OEM one is orange, but the HACK one is translucent and sharp.
*The exterior was OEM black when I purchased the GROM.
When I HACK, I change the exterior to a white smooth color.
Parts, tools, and things needed for this HACK
HONDA RENSE COMP. R.Turn signals 33604-MGS-D31 Right, 2pcs
HONDA RENSE COMP. L.Turn signals 33654-MGS-D31, left 2
Rubber gaskets and screws are used as it is.
How to do the HACK, explanation, work instructions, etc.
The tool can be done with a single screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the rubber gasket when you remove it.
Summary of HACK
The factory indicator lenses (the ones that come with the factory indicator lenses from the beginning) are
(1) The orange color makes it look retro (or, at best, retro).
(2) It doesn't fit the modern design of GROM.
(3) Cheesy.
Especially with the lacy Rossman's color from the stock, it lacks sharpness. I wanted to do something about it because it's not very wild.
There are parts available from third parties, but I thought it would be uninteresting to just add them to the motorcycle, so I searched the web for OEM Honda parts that would fit and found that the NC700 series lens cover introduced here would fit.
I bought it and installed it, and it's perfect and exactly as it should be. Isn't it nice to be casually stylish without looking tacky or cheap? It is highly recommended.
Thank you, Tamarin-r, for posting that valuable stock diversion HACK!
