Here are some of the maintenance methods we've received from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK Maintenance" campaign that we'd like to refer to. Maybe you have an idea that you'd like to try!

In this article, I'm going to introduce the maintenance HACK from Slime Rider Diary who ride the CB400 Super Four.

Motorcycle introduction and its maintenance

About the motorcycle

CB400 Super Four (NC31)

I've been a long-time customer of the motorcycle for 20 years. It looks like we won't have to worry about parts supply for a while to come thanks to the current model.

Working process

Fuel gauge repair.

The fuel gauge doesn't work. It's hard to surpass touring with mileage and feel.

Working hours

About 0.5 hours (proportional to the mindfulness of the sub-tank switchover?)

Working difficulty

Simple

Items to use

Analog Multimeter with Mini Tester/Holster
Brand: KAISE

Learn more about the work

1 Remove the fuel tank from the motorcycle and remove the fuel gauge sensor.

(2) Checking the condition of the sensor and cleaning/polishing
Looks like the rust replacement coat on the tank six months ago didn't prevent. At any rate, I checked the resistance by polishing with sandpaper because of the rusty condition.

(3) Checking sensor operation
The contactor with the coil is not energized either, so the resistance is infinite.

(4) Installation to the fuel tank (and seal replacement)
I also replaced the seal between the fuel gauge and the fuel tank, assembled it, and started the engine, and the fuel gauge came back to life. I didn't have to replace the assembly.

Advice

Don't forget to disconnect the sensor wiring as well as the fuel line when attaching and detaching the fuel tank. If the sensor wire angle is bent, it is not easy to adjust.

The factory parts are expensive, so I reworked them, but if you have rust, I recommend replacing it with a new one or a used one with good quality and low cost because it will cause the cock and carburetor to be clogged.
