MOTO HACK: Air Pressure Decrease Faster? Let’s Replace Deteriorated Air Valves!

Here are some of the maintenance methods we've received from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK Maintenance" campaign that we'd like to refer to. Maybe you have an idea that you'd like to try!

In this article, I'm going to introduce the maintenance HACK from Slime Rider Diary who ride the CB400 Super Four.

Motorcycle introduction and its maintenance

About the motorcycle

CB400 Super Four (NC31)

I've been a long-time customer of the motorcycle for 20 years. It looks like we won't have to worry about parts supply for a while to come thanks to the current model.

Working process

Front air valve replacement

The front air pressure loss is getting bigger. Valve degradation due to continuous work around the front? Wheels and distortion?

Working hours

About an hour (inversely proportional to the feeling of being fed up with the pre-boarding air supply).

Working difficulty

Simple

Items to use

1) Bead Cream
Brand: Rough & Load

(2) Air Valve Straight
Brand: Daytona

I wish I had.
Air valve pullers, valve inserter, valve inserts, valve injection tools
Brand: AI-NET

Bead Breaker (Large)
Brand: J-Trip

Compact Wheel Balancer
Brand: Daytona

Learn more about the work

1) Remove the wheels from the body, remove the tires, and remove the air valve.

I dropped a tire bead and removed it.

I used radio pliers to pry out the problem air valve using the principle of leverage. If you have a tool, you can remove it without worrying about wheel scratches.

2) Installation of the air valve

A new air valve is coated with beet cream and installed on the wheel. The old air valve in the picture was degraded inside, as expected, and shredded when I removed it.

3) Balancing the wheels and installing them into the body.

Assemble it using the tire marks as a guide, beat it up, and balance it out. Later, the air leaks stopped and it was a relief.

Advice

  • The body of the motorcycle should be stabilized with the wheels removed.
  • Hang the brake calipers on the body of the motorcycle to prevent stress on the brake hoses.
  • Bead breakers and wheel balancers are recommended to use the manufacturer's products. (It is made of a deformable single pipe.)
  • If you have good sense, you could use the parts cleaner blasting method to wake up the bead.

My advice is that it would be easier to have a valve puller. Don't forget to check the mounting direction of the tires.
