Hi, my name is Nao. It's almost rainy season, which means more and more rainwear will be needed.

I investigated what kind of rainwear the Webike staff is using for commuting to work in the rain. Please use it as a reference for your rainwear selection!

We've also prepared a short survey at the end. We'd love to hear from you as well!

What rainwear brands does Webike staff use?

20200603-rain-cyousa-000.jpg

The most popular brand on the Webike staff was RS TAICHI. I asked him why he chose it.

  • I wear RS TAICHI in my daily wear, so my rainwear is RS TAICHI as well!
  • It's a fine piece of motorcycle rainwear with a lot of detail and ingenuity.
  • The price is a bit high, but the quality is good and it lasts a long time.

Many from the Webike staff wear RS TAICHI as daily wear, and many of them said they would wear RS TAICHI for rainwear as well. Is it a secure and reliable manufacturer?

From the staff who chose GOLDWIN as the next most popular rainwear

  • I liked the GORE-TEX(R) for its water resistance and breathability, as I would be riding in the rain while touring.
  • The price and performance of the GORE-TEX(R) are well-balanced.

Some people have said that they chose GORE-TEX(R) for comfort in the rain. Currently, only GOLDWIN is available in GORE-TEX(R) among riding apparel manufacturers. It's synonymous with high functionality, so it's a good choice, even if it's expensive.

Other said,

  • I have a short time commuting to work, so I choose a suitably cheaper one.
  • Some people said that it was because Workman was cheap.

When do you buy a new rainwear?

Everyone uses it to the limit. It's eco-friendly. Some of the rainwear are soaked beyond its limits. Some people are wearing only the concept of rainwear.

Rainwear Maintenance Course by Professional

Maintenance is essential to make your rainwear last longer.

Learn how to maintain your rainwear directly from the Professional

  1. Rinse the surface with water to remove exhaust gases, oil and other contaminants from the surface.
  2. Hang it out in the shade to dry thoroughly.
  3. Spray the surface with a fluorochemical spray and let it dry thoroughly.
  4. Apply heat to the iron on a covered cloth (or use a hair dryer).

This will bring back that rainwear that's been losing its water repellency, perfectly! We hope you'll give it a try.

What is the key points of choosing rainwear for Webike staff?

20200603-rain-cyousa-022.jpg

There are many touring riders on the Webike staff. They are also concerned about "water resistance and moisture permeability" as they have many opportunities to ride at high speed in rainy weather. Supersport riders in particular tended to be more concerned about the performance of their rainwear as well.

The next point is "Price" and "Brand". This is the same as when we usually buy clothes.

There is also an opinion that compactness is important in order to always have it in your bag in case of sudden rain, and some staff members opted for flashy colors like yellow to increase their visibility from other vehicles.

Webike staff's favorite rainwear item!

I asked the Webike staff if they had any favorite rainwear related items! Here is a selection of some of the best hidden products.

Staff R's, who owned a big Cub Monkey freak, likes "TTPL waterproof bag". According to R, an outdoor enthusiast, it is completely waterproof and it is good to wash it with water even if it gets dirty. The design and color scheme is very stylish.

I actually carry this much stuff in it as a commuter bag. The 11L size is currently sold out.

Webike magazine writer Kenji recommends this waterproof shoe covers made of silicone. He said that you can just cover your shoes when it rains and you're good to go, and the best thing about it is that it's compact and light when not in use. My recommendation: MAKKU Rainwear

Lastly, my recommendation is MAKKU's "Adjust Makku Bag-In". This rainwear has a zipper on the back that expands the gusset so that you can wear it with your bag on your back. This is more convenient than I ever imagined and I highly recommend it!
