BMW's new big tourer "R 1300 RT" announced in May has finally been unveiled in Japan. This flat-twin model is the successor to the "R 1250 RT" and is a flagship tourer that not only features the latest electronic controls such as radar riding assistant and automatic shifting, but also has evolved aerodynamics and improved comfort.

Orders will be accepted from Wednesday, July 16th. It is scheduled to be released in late August, with prices starting from $24667.45.

The flat-twin "RT" series is equipped with a new 1300cc engine! Of course, the chassis and equipment are also completely renewed.

The "RT", which has a long history as BMW's high-speed tourer series, has continued to steadily expand its displacement along with the GS series. In 2019, it was released as the "R1250RT", which is equipped with ample power of 1254cc, electronic controls such as cruise control, hill start, and dynamic brake control. As the series name, which means "Reise Tourer," means a machine for travel, it has continued to evolve to be more suitable for comfortable long-distance touring while enjoying the maneuverability of the flat-twin engine.

The latest model in this series is the R1300RT. Like the R1300GS that was released last year, the engine has been increased to 1300cc and produces a maximum horsepower of 107kW (145PS)/7750rpm, complies with EURO5+, and has further strengthened the electronic control while also having a completely new body design. It was unveiled to the world in May of this year as a new on-road tourer.

The 24L large-capacity tank is not a dummy. It boasts a high texture with a finish that makes use of the metal surface.

In terms of the chassis, the conventional tube-structure frame has been revamped, and a newly designed Dynamic Chassis Adaptation (DCA) that combines a steel metal frame and an aluminum lattice rear frame is adopted. It is lightweight, highly rigid, and has a centralized center of gravity, and the seat height changes depending on the riding mode, and the position and suspension setting can be selected. The front fork is equipped with the continued EVO Telelever. Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) is standard equipment. The latest full LED headlights and lightweight wheels are also used, and every detail is perfect.

In addition, the position relationship of the handlebars, seat, and footrests has been reviewed to achieve a riding position that is more forward-leaning. It is comfortable on the highway and aggressive on winding roads. The new model also comes with a version equipped with an Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), making it possible to enjoy comfortable touring without the need for clutch operation. This is an automatic model that does not have a clutch lever but retains a shift lever, allowing you to switch between full automatic and manual operation as you wish.

The handlebar layout aims for a sporty, forward-leaning position, but the wide full-color TFT monitor and built-in mirrors further refine the comfort of a touring motorcycle.

Variable fairing completely shuts out wind Comfort that keeps even your feet dry

The front mask, which has a significantly different impression from the previous model, is equipped with a radar sensor and is packed with riding assistance features such as Active Cruise Control (ACC) with brake function, forward collision warning, and lane change warning. The headlights also function as cornering lights when in high beam, allowing for high-tech riding even at night.

In addition, a rare mechanism called a variable slipstream deflector, a transformable cowl, has been newly adopted. Part of the side fairing can be moved, which completely shuts out wind from getting into the upper body. Note the convenience of being able to let in wind in hot weather and be windproof in cold weather. In addition, a new cover has been added to the bottom of the cylinder block to prevent your feet from getting wet in rainy weather, making it possible to ride with your entire body almost dry.

When you manually pull it up, it is possible to prevent wind from getting caught.

For cold weather, the high-grade model comes equipped with heated grips and heated seats as standard. The passenger comfort has also been improved in the R1300RT, with an enlarged passenger seat for a better ride, and the pillion grips are also equipped with heaters, resulting in a thorough finish.

Four color variations are available: Alpine White 3, Black Storm Metallic, Racing Blue Metallic, and Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic. The price is $24643.44 for the Alpine White, and $27214.81 for the top-of-the-line Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic with ASA. The completely revamped R 1300 RT, the king of boxer tourers, offers a balance of performance and comfort that is worthy of being the most advanced model in the BMW RT series.
