The HONDA CB72 (commonly known as Nanani) is still an object of admiration among fans of classic Japanese motorcycle.
This time, we'll be introducing a special Nanani that has been customized to a racy "CYB72 specification"!
What is the HONDA CB72?
Honda's commercial sports motorcycle "Dream CB72 Super Sport" was released in 1960.
This model was created by incorporating the technology and know-how Honda gained from its first participation in the "Isle of Man TT Race" in 1959.
The Isle of Man TT was considered the "world's toughest" motorcycle race at the time. Honda participated with an RC racer, and although they missed out on winning their class, they won the team prize despite it being their first time participating. The high-revving engine technology and lightweight frame structure gained from this experience were utilized in the design of the CB72.
With an engine that could reach a maximum speed of 9,000 rpm and dual-leading brakes, this was an innovative machine that brought circuit technology to the public roads.
The CB72 was highly acclaimed around the world and was the motorcycle that helped spread Honda's name around the world.

CB72 owned by a 30-something who loves Honda
The CB72 owner we will introduce in this article is Mr. Ohashi, who lives in Shizuoka Prefecture.
In addition to the CB72, he is a genuine Honda classic motorcycle enthusiast who also owns a HONDA CB750FOUR, DAX, and Super Cub C110 (a race motorcycle for B.O.B.L.).
There aren't many people in their early 30s who own a 750cc and a 750cc lol
This time, we interviewed Honda enthusiast Mr. Ohashi about his beloved CB72, so please read until the end!

What prompted you to buy the CB72?
“I’ve been riding a HONDA CB750FOUR for a long time, but many of my motorcycle friends ride even older Hondas like the CB72, CB450, and CB93… I was influenced by them and became interested in even older motorcycles.
One day, I bought a Honda genuine racing seat (commonly known as the Y seat) on Yahoo! Auctions, thinking, "For the day I get a new motorcycle someday," and the next day, I heard from an acquaintance that a CB72 was for sale... so I immediately bought it!
Huh?! Is that even possible? lol
It's nothing but fate!
What's the point of customization?
"This is the classic way to tweak a CB72, but I customized it into a CB72 modified racer with CYB72 specifications."
What is CYB72?
"At the time, there were Honda genuine racing parts (commonly known as Y parts) for the CB72. I used those and reproduction parts to create the style of a clubman racer from that time.
I asked my senior colleagues to do the difficult work and we worked together to finish the motorcycle. He also reassembled the engine, and it now runs smoothly.
The exterior is very worn out, but the ride is so smooth you wouldn't even notice it!
It gives off a racy vibe, so maybe it could be used for racing...?
"No, I haven't participated in any races.
However, to create an atmosphere, I also tried wiring it in my free time!

What efforts are you making to maintain it?
"Due to the nature of the motorcycle, I often use high revolutions, so I change the oil quite frequently. Also, there's nothing good that comes from leaving an old motorcycle lying around, so I try to ride it whenever I have time."
Is there anything you are struggling with?
"The problem is that the parts are expensive.
Although it is a model of motorcycle from the 1960s that has good availability of parts, the damage to your wallet when it breaks down is still huge.
I always check Yahoo! Auctions and eBay to make sure I have spare parts, and regular maintenance is essential to prevent breakdowns.
Nanani is full of passion and dedication
The CB72 is a masterpiece that embodies the pinnacle of Honda technology.
This motorcycle has been restored in a style reminiscent of the racing scene of the time, and it really conveys Ohashi's passion and dedication to classic motorcycles.
