The BMW R100RS is characterized by its classic style, and now a builder has taken the R100RS and given it an extremely classy chopper style for the Hot Rod Custom Show. In this issue, we will introduce its birth story and the details of the customization!

Custom Store run by BMW Enthusiasts
The builder who created this custom motorcycle is Toresol moto.
It is a custom shop in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, that was captivated by the BMW R100RS.
They usually customize the R100RS in European styles such as scramblers and cafe racers, but the vehicle they prepared for this hot rod is a chopper style! We spoke to Takahashi-san, the representative of Toresol moto, to find out more about it!

What led to the customization?
"As mentioned at the beginning, I usually finish the R100RS in European styles such as cafe racers and scramblers. Aren't most hot rods made of old Harley-Davidson customs? For this exhibit, we thought about what style would attract attention at BMW, and then we started making a chopper-style vehicle."
I see! So instead of your usual style, you deliberately came up with a customization that was more suited to the hot rod custom show!

What are your thoughts on customization?
The concept behind the production is “Your Ride, Your Way.
You decide where you go and how you feel.
Style is not something that is given to you, it is something you choose. The more you choose to be particular, the more your own style will emerge. Enjoy life with your best partner.” I decided to do it!
Oh, wow! What an exciting concept!
Thank you very much! The excitement of challenging a new style and exhibiting at a hot rod show gives us a new stimulus. And how will the two events of building and exhibiting the vehicle affect me in the future? We worked on the fabrication with high hopes for the future!

The production concept is "Your Ride, Your Way.
Please give us the details of your vehicle.
The base motorcycle is a 1980 R100RS, an early model. As mentioned above, since it was to be displayed at a hot rod show, we decided on an American style, not European style, but “narrow and low,” as narrow as possible and as low as possible. In fact, I was originally influenced by my love of Harley's chopper style.
Wow, you liked Harley-Davidson! So you liked Harleys?
That's right! Because of his love of Harley-Davidson, we used a custom tank for the Sportster and rebuilt the frame to match. The rear suspension on both sides was also too conspicuous to make the vehicle thinner, so suspension arms were fabricated and a thin suspension for Harley-Davidson was placed under the seat in parallel. This allowed us to slim down the chassis to the limit and to emphasize the boxer engine characteristic of the BMW.”
This is a customization that takes advantage of the best of both BMW and Harley-Davidson!

The narrow style can be clearly seen from the front!

The switches have also been simplified to the utmost limit.

Clean cockpit with no wasted space

Narrow and low body with thick vintage tires

To emphasize the boxer engine, the left and right rear suspensions are eliminated. Instead, a narrow suspension for Harley is placed under the seat by a master craftsman!

Role of the Custom Builder
This motorcycle has been customized as a style that thoroughly chops off the unnecessary. Frankly speaking, some parts of the bike have lost comfort and convenience due to this style. Whether the emphasis is on comfort and convenience, style, or something in between, the way of thinking and how to enjoy the bike varies from person to person.
Customization is one way to deepen the relationship between the rider and the bike, and I believe that the role of the custom builder is to help deepen that relationship,” says Takahashi. says Mr. Takahashi.

Customization is one way to deepen the relationship between motorcycle and rider!
It's not just customization as a work of art, but the relationship between the motorcycle and the rider... If you say that to me, I'm tempted to ask you to customize one for me, aren't I?
I'm going to hold that feeling in check and look forward to the next show motorcycle!
