Webike Community's My Bike introduces various motorcycles in the "Owner Review Summary" based on the opinions of owners who actually ride or have ridden these bikes.
This time, we bring you the honest opinions of owners of the Honda "CBR400R"!

To be frank, Honda "CBR400R" is this kind of motorcycle!

オーナーが語る!「CBR400R」ってぶっちゃけどうなのよ!?【オーナーレビューまとめ】

The CBR400R's biggest features are its edgy full cowl, inverted forks and racy styling. It may look fast and tough, but contrary to that image, the CBR400R has a character that is suitable for everyone, with "easy-to-handle power characteristics and a surprisingly comfortable riding position." Although it is called the CBR series, the "RR" series models such as the CBR250RR and CBR1000RR-R prioritize performance on the circuit and can be a bit difficult to handle or have a tight riding position on public roads, but the CBR400R, which has one "R", is also designed to be easy to ride on public roads.

It was released in 2013. At the time, Honda's NC700X (now NC750X) series was a success, and they preferred to develop a series called the "platform strategy," which gives different styling characters based on a common engine and body.

The CBR400R was also born based on that "platform strategy," along with the adventure-looking 400X (now the NX400) and the naked-style CB400F (out of production). These three models are equipped with the same 399cc parallel twin engine and share the same body, including the suspension. All three were released with a character that was easy for everyone to handle.

However, this "platform strategy" of sharing the engine and body was only adopted for the pre-2019 model (EBL-NC47). In the 2019 model change, there were many common changes such as the introduction of an assist slipper clutch, but the CBR400R and 400X have evolved independently to enhance their respective strengths. The CBR400R (2BL-NC56) has a riding position that leans forward by about 8% by changing the way the separate handlebars are attached, and the engine character has a better transient characteristic with better acceleration by changing the FI setting to the 400X. The design of the front mask has also become smaller and sharper than the previous model.

After that, the suspension was upgraded in the 2021 model change (8BL-NC56). The front fork became a SHOWA (Hitachi Astemo Co., Ltd.) SFF-BP (separate function front fork big piston), and the front brake area was also double disc and radial mount. The most recent model change in 2024 (8BL-NC65) will see a sharper exterior and new features such as traction control and a TFT color meter.

More than 10 years have passed since its release, and the CBR400R has been gradually improving its marketability, but what can be said throughout the series is that "despite its racy full-cowl styling, it is easy to ride from city riding to touring, and is a motorcycle that can be safely recommended to beginners who have just gotten their license."

CBR400R Owner's Voice

Here are some of the most impressive voices among the many reviews.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative motorcycle models As I became more financially and professionally comfortable, I wanted to start riding a motorcycle again, so I searched around and found information on the CBR400R. I actually went to a store to look at it and liked it, so I bought it. Comparison models include Kawasaki's Ninja 400 and Suzuki's GSX250R.
Pros/Satisfactory points Looks just so cool! The neighborhood is so popular with children that they wave at you. It is so popular among children that neighborhood children wave to me. I use it mainly for touring down the road and for shopping in the neighborhood, and occasionally on the highway, but it is easy to drive and does not tire. I recommend it to beginners because it stays in the rpm range where you might stall the engine when starting off or at low speeds. It is also easy to accelerate and drive whether on the freeway or down the road, and you don't have to worry about vibration at all as long as you don't exceed 100 km.
Disadvantages and dissatisfactions I don't have any complaints, though,I dare say it has almost no load carrying capacity.... If you are going to carry luggage, you will definitely need to consider a rear bag or pannier case for retrofitting. Also, the starting price for a new bike is higher than other bikes of the same type, so you will need to consult with your wallet to some extent. Incidentally, cruising 120km on the highway in a 120km zone will numb your hands to a certain extent, so you must let that go with a 400cc bike.
Advice for prospective buyers As for maintenance, it is the same as other 400 cc cars, and you will have to pay for vehicle inspections, oil and other consumable parts replacement, and other expenses.Comfortable to ride in, even for those who just got their license. So, if you are not sure whether you can ride the bike or not, it would be a good idea to visit a store and have a look at the bike.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative motorcycle models I originally went from a 2019 CBR400R => 2022 CBR400R => 2024 CBR400R...
The deciding factor was the inclusion of a Honda RoadSync-compatible full-color TFT LCD meter with smartphone connectivity in this minor change!
Pros/Satisfactory points SFF-BP inverted front forks with double disc + radial mount brake calipers andThe undercarriage is superb.Oh my god!!!
Honda RoadSync-compatible full-color TFT LCD meters that can be linked to smartphones are extremely convenient!
Disadvantages and dissatisfactions The vehicle price is high for a 400cc, 2-cylinder full cowl, so if you are not particular about it, you might consider Ninjya or R3 as a potential purchase.
interpoint (interword separation)Recommended for first-time riders for touring use or city driving. It is!
It is a supersport that can be ridden every day except for driving!
Advice for prospective buyers The engine is nowhere near as powerful as it should be.Expectations may be disappointed when it comes to driving. It is.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative motorcycle models I found it when I was looking for my first bike and the company was looking only for Honda, and I was worried about CB250R and chose this one.
Pros/Satisfactory points interpoint (interword separation)Light clutchEasy to start.
The car is well equipped for driving and can be ridden with peace of mind. (No, you can't be too careful.)
It's not too lacy.Easy because of loose forward leaningThe following is a list of the most common problems with the "C" in the "C" column.
Disadvantages and dissatisfactions The bike feels a little heavy for my first time.
Custom parts are fewer than other bikes.
High RPMs feel a little weak.
Advice for prospective buyers I think it's a great first bike.
The bike is neither too heavy nor too light, neither too fast nor too slow, stable and quintessential Honda.

Check out CBR400R's Competitors

Since its release, the CBR400R has been characterized by its ease of handling and racy full-cowl design, and the candidates that have been raised as rivals to it are models with similar concepts.

Yamaha's YZF-R3 and Kawasaki's Ninja 400 are some of them. Although these models are equipped with sporty full-cowling, they have features such as a moderate forward-leaning posture that can be used for touring and torque characteristics in the low and medium speed ranges that make it easy to ride around town, and are by no means "high-powered and difficult to handle."

So, if you're interested in the reviews of its rivals, check them out here!
