Cooler design with more riding freedom
YAMAHA has released a teaser video in Europe. As predicted on this website, the 2025 new Tenere 700 was officially announced on November 4th.
The TENERE 700 is an adventure motorcycle that debuted in 2019, equipped with a 270-degree crank parallel twin 688cc engine based on the MT-07 in a dedicated frame. Compared to rivals with parallel twins in the same displacement range, it is lighter at 205kg and has 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire spoke wheels, making it a motorcycle with a strong off-road orientation.
The 2023 model has undergone minor changes such as the adoption of a color TFT meter and improved ABS mode, but this is the first big change. The main change is the new engine that introduces an electronically controlled throttle, just like the 2025 MT-07. In addition to the suspension, the exterior and meter have also been revamped.
The 2025 Ténéré 700 (Yamaha European model). It has undergone its first major change since its launch in 2019, with a completely new exterior. The European model is available in two colors, the one pictured here being Icon Blue. This is a traditional color that has been used on a variety of models, starting with the 1996 YZ and WR racers.
Frozen Titanium is a color that enhances the tough character of the Tenere.
The shroud is long from top to bottom, and extends to the knee grip area. It is designed to allow the wind to flow smoothly whether the rider is seated or standing. The side covers have a sharp shape, and the sides of the seat are decorated with YZ-style blue.
The fuel tank has been moved forward for optimal ergonomics and size balance. The head height has been reduced for better weight distribution and easier standing. Tank volume remains at 16L.
The motorcycle is newly equipped with a horizontal 4-lamp LED headlight. It has a tower-shaped face reminiscent of a classic rally model. The handguards are new and feature a two-tone white and black finish. The standard tires are tube-type Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR.
The headlight has a cool horizontal image reminiscent of the latest YZF-R9 and R3. The newly adopted internal Y-shaped mount is also innovative.
The conventional model used four round LED headlights with position lamps at the bottom.
The knee grip area has been slimmed down to make it easier to hold.
The seat has been changed from a front/rear split type to a new one-piece type. The design is inspired by rally models, giving greater freedom when riding.
The conventional Tenere 700. The new model has a lighter image. The Japan model is priced at $9065.98.
The engine is equipped with two driving modes, and even the details such as the intake duct have been refined.
The 688cc CP2 (crossplane parallel twin-cylinder) uses an electronically controlled throttle, just like the new MT-07 with which it shares the engine. This gives it riding modes. Two modes can now be selected: "Sport" and the milder "Explorer".
Traction control was not installed, but the new model has been equipped with an electronic throttle, which can be turned on and off.
In addition, the intake duct has been shortened to increase the low-speed torque, further increasing its combat power in off-road riding. The maximum output of 73.4ps/8750rp and maximum torque of 6.93kg-m/6500rpm remain unchanged.
In addition, the inside of the gearbox has been improved to achieve smoother gear changes. The number of dog holes and pawls for 1st to 3rd gears has been increased from 5 to 6 to reduce shock. The angle of the dog for 4th to 6th gears has been changed to make the behavior when opening and closing the throttle smoother.
The 688cc in-line twin-cylinder engine with a 270-degree crank complies with Europe's latest emissions regulations, Euro 5+, while maintaining maximum power and torque.
By moving the clutch link position forward and changing the shape of the clutch cover, it is now less likely to interfere with your feet even when standing.
As before, the front and rear ABS can be turned on and off with the button on the left side of the meter, and it is also possible to turn off only the rear. With the new model, the ABS and traction control can be canceled by pressing and holding the button. These settings can also be changed from the meter.
The front initial adjustment is possible, and the rear is completely refined.
The exclusive steel pipe double cradle frame is the same as the previous model, but reinforcement has been added to the silencer bracket to improve durability for hard off-road driving. In response to user requests, the side stand switch has also been redesigned.
The suspension has also been revamped. It now features an initial adjustment function for the front forks, which was not available on the previous model. The rear has a different setting and link mechanism. The progressive linkage, which borrows technology from rally machines, maintains the same 200mm wheel travel as the previous model, but the suspension stroke has been increased.
In addition, the rear was originally fully adjustable, but has now been changed to include a reservoir tank. The initial adjuster has also become a separate unit, making it easier to operate.
The brakes will continue to use Brembo front and rear as before.
The vehicle weight has increased by 3 kg to 208 kg, but the dimensions such as the minimum ground clearance of 240 mm and the wheelbase of 1595 mm remain unchanged.
The φ43mm inverted fork has an initial adjuster added to the top, allowing for 15mm adjustment. The rebound and compression damping force adjustment function is already included.
The meter has been enlarged to 6.3 inches and can also display navigation.
The rally machine-style 5-inch vertical color TFT meter, a feature of the Tenere 700, has been enlarged to 6.3 inches. A number of new functions, such as turn-by-turn navigation, are now available via an app. The current domestic model does not have smartphone connectivity, but the European model already has it.
As before, there are two design themes to choose from, "Explorer" and "Street." The USB-C charging socket to the right of the meter will also continue to be used.
The motorcycle is fitted with a 6.3-inch vertically long color TFT meter. The display area has been enlarged, making it possible to display a variety of information, including turn-by-turn navigation.
The switch has been changed to a new type, which includes a joystick that can be operated in five directions, as well as a three-times blinker mechanism and an automatic cancel function.
What is the price and release date of the Japanese model?
While the Tenere 700 is only available in Japan as a standard model, there are a total of five variations available in Europe. One of these, the Tenere 700 Rally, has also been updated to a new model.
The model features a special color scheme inspired by the works rally machines of the past and a large skid plate, and has undergone the same changes as the new standard model. In addition, it has an upturned front fender and front and rear suspensions with increased travel, and the ground clearance has been increased from the standard 240mm to 255mm.
It also has lightweight titanium footrests and a special seat. The meter can also display a special theme.
The body color has been changed from the conventional white and red strobe to a solid blue body color and speed block graphics inspired by the 1980s Dakar winning machine, the XT600 Tenere.
2025 Tenere 700 Rally (European model). It features a body color inspired by the classic XT600 Tenere and gold-colored rims.
--The release date and price of the new Tenere 700 European model have not yet been announced. As of November 4th, there has been no announcement regarding its introduction in Japan. The Tenere 700 Rally was sold domestically in 2023 as an accessory-equipped model, but is not currently available. We look forward to further news on these developments.
