A well-running Katana that satisfies the needs of customization while considering the present and future

Bright Logic receives a constant supply of air-cooled Suzuki GSX1100S Katanas and produces many custom motorcycles. Some base motorcycles are brought in by users, while others are pre-made. For the latter, the base frame is checked, corrected, and modified if necessary. The engine is also finished in the same way, and the suspension is often upgraded to produce a standard + alpha. When doing so, they carefully replace bearings and seals with new ones, as well as other work that will improve the condition of the motorcycle.

"When we post the process of building a vehicle on our blog, we often get customers along the way, and then we start making custom-made cars," says Takenaka, the shop's manager.

"This motorcycle is based on the Final Edition. The customer brought it in, and it was so clean and in such good condition that it seemed a shame to touch it. But he said he wanted to customize it, so after a meeting, we decided on this specification. The main changes were to 18-inch wheels front and rear, and the wheels were Magtan. We also strengthened the brakes and changed the suspension. When you ride it after it's finished, you'll think, "This is the kind of ride that is characteristic of a Katana, and it's much lighter than the original, which is great" (laughs)."

In this case, the condition of the base, including the exterior, is very good, and the base itself is a Final Edition with a low mileage of about 2,000 km. Even if you kept it as a Final Edition, the market price would be at least $13592.87-$20389.30... That's why we proposed a specification that could be restored (Takenaka-san).

However, there was a lot of thought put into it, and the stem was left as it was in the Final Edition, while the bottom case of the front fork was made for the GSX1100SR. This was a solution to the problem of there being no caliper support available on the market (early 2020) as it was changed for the SY (Final), which is only 1,100 units in total. The swingarm has a smooth installation precision without any play, and the required shape precision is properly achieved, with straight lines and right angles, and the parts are not too thick. In addition, a new lower extension adapter for the rear shock is installed, which can raise the height of the tail slightly and optimize it. The footpegs and muffler are also selected to be compatible with the Final Edition, which can be installed without difficulty. In this way, careful consideration is given to the vehicle posture, so the custom feel and beauty are fulfilled.

Professionals supplement and arrange the mechanical and vehicle aspects that users do not understand. If the foundation is equipped with proper base performance, the range of enjoyment will expand.

It has been driven just under 2500km, there is no white discoloration on the plastic parts, it is clean overall, and there are no problems with the engine. With the possibility of returning it to its original state in mind, the frame and engine have not been touched, and the stem is the standard Final Edition. The 19/17 → 18-inch wheels front and rear were also reset.

The handlebars are the standard Katana aluminum forged separates (for φ37mm forks), and the square-type mirrors are also the standard Katana. The front brake master cylinder is changed to a Brembo radial-pump + collapsible lever. The bolts on each part are also changed to cap types.

The footrests are made by Yoshimura (out of production) and are compatible with the Final Edition, and are mounted on a bracket mount. The pillion footrest section acts as a muffler stay, and is used in conjunction with the Yoshimura muffler used this time. The engine and frame remain standard.

The exhaust system is a "banana pipe" of titanium 4-in-1 exhaust + aluminum silencer and is compatible with Yoshimura's final edition / discontinued product. It is assumed that it will be used in combination with the footpeg, but it is also important that the manufacturer knows about products that follow the concept of being able to be used without processing like this.

The aluminum, angular swingarm is manufactured by Advantage. In addition to the high installation and operation precision, the main pipe and other components are of a suitable size, which visually maintains the overall balance. The rear shock is an Ohlins SU131, and a lower extension adapter is manufactured to mount it.

The front and rear wheels are MAGTAN JB3, and the size has been changed from the original 1.85-19/2.50-17 to 3.00-18/4.50-18. The front caliper is a Brembo 4P, but since there is no aftermarket support for SY, the bottom side of the front fork was changed to the SR type that does not use ANDF. The disc is Sunstar and the lines have been replaced with stainless steel mesh.
