From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them. This time, here's what the owners have to say about 「SCRAMBLER Sixty2」.

To be honest, the Scrambler Sixty2 is the kind of bike

SCRAMBLER_Sixty2_ride.jpg

The Scrambler Sixty2, equipped with an air-cooled L-twin engine with a displacement of 399 cc, became popular as the first Ducati in a long time that could be ridden with a regular motorcycle license.

It was introduced in 2016 and was developed based on the Scrambler Icon, which had been announced the previous year, with the 800cc engine of the same model reduced in bore x stroke. The frame is basically the same, although modifications have been made to the body to match the displacement. The size of the body is almost the same.

When you hear of a model with a common chassis and a reduced displacement engine, you may think of it as a downgraded, lower-priced version. Indeed, the Sixty2's engine power is about half that of the Icon, and its suspension and other equipment have been reduced in cost. After the Sixty2, a model with a 1100cc engine was added to the Scrambler series, and now there are many variations of the Scrambler series. Although the Scrambler series has such a wide variety of models, some say that the Sixty2 is one of the best-balanced models in the series.

The reason for this is its moderate power. The term "scrambler" was originally used to refer to a motorcycle with a longer suspension stroke and an upswept exhaust system than an on-road motorcycle, which could be ridden off-road, at a time when off-road motorcycles had not yet been established.

In this sense, the 800cc engine is too powerful and requires a high level of technique to drive off-road. In this respect, the Sixty2's affordable power gives it the flexibility to take on any road with ease. Even in city driving, the Sixty2's ease of use shines through.

Although the specifications do not call for high power with a maximum output of 40 hp, the character of the engine with a rich sense of pulse is still present. The chassis is capable of handling the power of a large-displacement engine, and its large capacity makes it a pleasure to drive.

The Scrambler Sixty2 is already out of production. It is a rare Ducati model in the standard motorcycle class, and due to its high reputation, it is not uncommon to find used Ducati Scrambler Sixty2s priced above new vehicle prices. It is a machine with that much charm and value.

Incidentally, the name Sixty2 is a reference to the year 1962, when the old Scrambler, the model on which Ducati was aiming for a full-fledged entry into the American market, was introduced. That old Scrambler was powered by a 250cc to 350cc engine. The essence of the Scrambler may be found in Sixty2.

Average Owner Satisfaction Rating: 3.77 out of 5 (59 persons evaluated)

Notably, the driving and looks scored a high level of 4 or more points. On the other hand, as mentioned in the comments, the loadability of the scrambler needs to be worked on. In addition, the evaluation of fuel efficiency seems to be divided, so it may depend on how it is used. Some say it lacks power compared to the 800cc Scrambler, but it is also true that the 400cc Scrambler is just as enjoyable as a motorcycle that can be ridden 100% of the time, as in the comment that it is just the right level.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Reason for purchase: I wanted legs that would not choose the path.
Advantages/Satisfactory points  Style and rideability.
It can be driven on flat dirt roads, so you don't have to worry about forest road touring or driving on steep unpaved roads.
Of course, it is also very versatile and can be ridden on ordinary roads and highways.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points The fuel economy is not good.
The 14-liter tank can run only about 320 km.
There is no fuel gauge, so you need to know where the gas station is when touring more than 300 km.
Advice for prospective buyers It is not a motorcycle for acceleration or speed.
If you don't understand this and buy it, you may get bored or feel unsatisfied.
It is suited for people who wish to use it freely, such as for daily use or solo touring.

Narithing

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Reason for purchase: I had retired a few years ago and was riding a 125cc motorcycle for camping touring purposes, but as my range of activities was inevitably limited, I was looking for a motorcycle that could be ridden on the highway, and I found this sixty2 and fell in love at first sight.
Advantages/Satisfactory points  Stylish appearance and unique engine feel.
Its relaxed, unstretched position makes touring easy, and its cornering performance on mountain passes is sufficient for one's skills.
The fuel economy averages a respectable 27.5km/L.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points It has no load-carrying capacity, so if it is used for camping tours, etc., it is necessary to add a carrier or other equipment. The seat is a little hard, so it may cause your buttocks to buckle on long-distance tours.
Maintenance costs are a little higher than those of domestic models.
Advice for prospective buyers As of 8/2017, it has been about 8 months since we purchased it.
I have traveled more than 9,000km during day trips and camping tours.
Although it is small, touring while feeling the pulse and feeling that only DUCATI can give you is the best!

Shō-chan

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Reason for purchase: Change from moped to make commuting to school more comfortable. I fell in love at first sight.
Advantages/Satisfactory points  First of all, it looks cool and I fell in love with it at first sight, but the engine sound is also very heavy and enjoyable.
I also like the fact that I am riding a motorcycle that is different from others because it is made by a foreign manufacturer.
I am short, but this motorcycle has good footing, so I don't have to worry.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points Ducati is an Italian manufacturer so ordering any parts seems to take a long time. So far I don't feel it is too much of a burden.
Advice for prospective buyers Ride the motorcycle you like best!
I had some financial problems, there was no authorized dealer nearby, and I was worried about maintenance costs, but I bought the one I liked the best and am very happy with it.

Check out Scrambler Sixty2's competitors

Looking around for a model in the 400cc class that would compete with the Scrambler Sixty2, we can't immediately think of one. Even if you think of two-cylinder or L-twin motorcycles, you will not find any that are close in character, and even if you do, they are either too different in concept or too old in age. That is how unique the Scrambler Sixty2 is.

If you are looking for a recent model with a neo-classic flavor, the Honda GB350 could be a strong contender.
The GB350 is popular for its large, authentic styling and long-stroke single engine. It is an on-road-focused vehicle and does not have the off-road elements of a scrambler, but it is often customized in a scrambler-like fashion to take advantage of its good qualities. If you want to ride a Scrambler-style motorcycle, this is an attractive base machine in terms of availability.
