We have just brought you news of the expected introduction of the 2023 YZF-R125 in Japan, and it looks like we can also expect to see its sibling, the YZF-R15, in the country in 2023. The 150cc class that can be ridden on the highway has become popular among scooters but will be quite rare among sports bikes.
I would also like to predict what will happen to the 2023 YZF-R25, also a light motorcycle.
The YZF-R25 will be the R7 face, and the YZF-R15 and two YZF-R25s will be the R7 face.
In 2023, Yamaha's YZF-R series lineup is expected to expand. The news of the expected introduction of the YZF-R125/MT-125/XSR125 in Japan that we previously reported on was a horizontal expansion, and the enhancement of the YZF-R series is a vertical expansion, indicating that Yamaha is about to go on the offensive in both directions.
The YZF-R series will add the YZF-R7 in 2021, and there are rumors that the YZF-R9 will debut in 2024. This would complete the lineup of up to eight models: YZF-R125, R15, R25, R3, R6 (race-based models only), R7, R9, and R1. Since Yamaha has also registered the YZF-R4 and R5 as trademarks, it is possible that there could be even more.
From the second half of 2023 onward, this full YZF-R series lineup system is expected to be gradually established in Japan, with the light motorcycle (126-250cc) class consisting of the YZF-R15 and the YZF-R25. The YZF-R15 is expected to be introduced in Japan with a single-lens headlight like the new YZF-R7, the latest version of which was launched in India in September 2021.
On the other hand, the YZF-R25 just complied with Japan's 2020 emission regulations with the 2022 model year and is not expected to undergo a model change for some time. The YZF-R25 will continue with its twin-lens face and will be separated from the YZF-R15.

The new YZF-R15 is sold not only in India but also in Indonesia. And since the YZF-R25 sold in Japan is produced in Indonesia, the same production system is expected to be used if the YZF-R15 Japanese version is realized.
Furthermore, Indonesia has a lineup of the WR155R, an off-road model that uses the same liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the new YZF-R15, and we expect this model to be introduced in Japan.
