SUZUKI celebrated its 100th anniversary on March 15 and launched the GSX-R1000R ABS, SUZUKI's representative Supersports, in a special color on April 24. The special color scheme is based on the GSX-RR, which will compete in the 2020 FIM* Road Race World Championship MotoGP class with Team SUZUKI ECSTAR.
The GSX-R1000R ABS is the most powerful and most environmentally friendly model in GSX-R history due to a thorough review of the basic design of the GSX-R series, in which the engine and chassis are harmonized for "Run. Turn. Stop." and evolve further by adopting the technology cultivated in MotoGP, and has been balanced at a high dimension based on the concept of a "No. 1 sports bike".
Its main change is the availability of a special "100th Anniversary Color". There are no changes to the specifications or prices.

Main features of the GSX-R1000R ABS
Engine
・The 999cm3 inline four engine is equipped with the Broad Power System, which incorporates technology developed in MotoGP. The Broad Power System is a generic term for the four mechanisms, and it is a technology that achieves both increased power at high rev and low to mid rev range.
(1) Intake VVT that changes the cam timing by spreading the steel ball built into the cam sprocket outward by centrifugal force when the rev speed exceeds a certain level.
(2) Ride by wire and two injectors to improve combustion efficiency, throttle response, and maximum power
(3) Valve system that achieves accurate valve control and high engine speeds
(4) Three exhaust pressure adjustment valves that optimize exhaust pressure based on rev, throttle position, and gear position to increase torque at all rev ranges.
・Corresponded model to 2016 Japanese emission regulations.
Chassis
・The frame has been reduced in overall width to improve aerodynamics and optimize the weight and rigidity balance.
・Its cornering performance and maneuverability have been improved since the engine mounting angle has been changed to shorten the distance from the center of the front wheels to the front axle of the swingarm.
・Air resistance is greatly reduced by adopting a cowling with a reduced surface area on the front.
Equipment
・It has been equipped with the latest SHOWA BFF® (Balance Free Front) forks and BFRC® lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion) lite shock, developed for racing.
・The front brake system features Brembo monoblock radial-mount brake calipers. Brembo's T-Drive brake discs, which transmit braking power more efficiently, are equipped with a modified version for production vehicles.
・The ABS is equipped with the Motion Track Brake System, which works with the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), to prevent the rear-wheel lift during very hard braking. In addition, the GSX-R1000R is also equipped with a function to prevent the front tires from losing grip since the front brake pressure is optimized based on the leaning angle of the when braking in a corner. *1
・The "Motion Track Traction Control" allows the rider to select 10 different levels of traction control intervention, depending upon road or racetrack conditions as well as personal preference and experience. *2
・The S-DMS (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector), which allows the rider to select from three different driving modes to suit their riding style, is equipped.
・The GSX-R1000R also has a racing-type bi-directional quick shift system, allowing for smoother and more agile shifting without using the clutch or the throttle.
・The Launch Control System, which assists a more efficient start by controlling rev and torque to prevent the front-wheel lift when riding on a circuit, is equipped to the GSX-R1000R as the first in a production SUZUKI non-competition model. *3
・Systems such as Low RPM Assist, which raises engine rpm in starting and in low rpm range, and Suzuki Easy Start System, which enables the rider to just one-push the starter instead of press-holding it to start the engine, are adopted.
*1 Please note that ABS is not designed to shorten the braking distance. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please drive carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.
*2 Traction control does not completely control rear-wheel slip (spin) under all conditions, nor does it prevent a fall.
*3 The Launch Control System is a system that assists the rider in the operation of a closed course.
