This is because a 4-1 system always has a torque valley in the middle.

In addition, the tail pipe has been tapered from 54Φ to 60.5Φ to increase mid-speed torque, and the front pipe is 38Φ.

The step can be reduced to zero when machining the port of a tuned engine.
