[Kenny Sagawa’s column] Improvement of motorcycles and those goods make touring more interesting!

I'm now in Chugoku/Shikoku region in Japan on location. It is the theme to visit some spots of great views with motorcycles, and I'm rediscovering the fun of motorcycle touring.

Improvements of motorcycles - Latest technology makes us less tired.

One of the reasons is the improvements of motorcycle. Recently, even made-in-Japan models are having bigger capacity, and it has become very easy to do continuous, high-speed cruise which only a part of imported motorcycles or reverse-imported ones could in the past.

Thanks to the great wind-protection performance made by aerodynamic analysis or electronical devices like auto cruise, ABS and traction control, it enables to travel as far as possible with safety and comfort.

With high-powered and high-performance models, it was hard for riders to control in the past. However, nowadays, thanks to the electronic equipment I have written, suspension which can be changed its settings flexibly, adjusting the road condition, and tires improved its gripping performance omni directionally, I can ride even on rough road or on rainy day without feeling very tired. As I can be calm, I don’t get much tired physically nor mentally even after long-distance touring because those elements make me calm.

Improvement of outfits - Physical strength and guts aren’t needed anymore!?

Improvement of outfits is also a big factor. Outfits have now not only anti-wind and anti-coldness function but also ventilation. Also, those are supposed to have strechability to make riding more freely and protection function for the worst case. Recent outfits for motorcycle riders are like space suits… Though it may be an exaggeration, it can be said that those are ultimate outfits to seek safety and comfort.

Once, talking about long-distance touring, it might be supposed to need physical strength and guts. However, if you wear high-performance outfits, you will be comfortable while riding in town and winding road, or high-speed cruise.

Improvement of tools for packing - Your luggage will be smart even for staying a few days

Packing has become easy. The models supposed to load its stock touring bags are increasing. Rear carriers also have become functional, and recently, there are many kinds of convenient items like aftermarket bags to fit even sport model or completely waterproof containers.

It is no need to tie luggage to the rear seat with rubber rope tightly like in the past. you can pack your luggage even for staying a few days.

Improvement of communication tools - Efficient and safe. Having fun with friends!

Improvement of communication tools also makes us enjoyable while touring. Especially, it is essential for group touring to use intercom.

It enables us to share the feeling to see the great views in front of us with friends. Also, sharing the navigation system’s information like routes, it will be possible to reach the destination efficiently with safety.

If the dark road in the night or rain may break your heart, you will be alright by laughing out loud with friends.

Improvement of recording medium - Full of presence feeling!

It is wearable camera that is extraordinarily improved in recent years. As it is changing to be more compact and to have higher resolution, it has rapidly become possible for anyone to shoot video with full of presence feeling easily.

There are a lot of attaching items which are efficient even for motorcycles to load, and also, editing applications are enriched. Furthermore, there is a model having editing function in the camera itself. So, I can’t miss the tendency of wearable cameras which is improved day by day.

As I wrote, by human’s wisdom (though this is a little exaggerated), touring with motorcycles has become enjoyable and comfortable.
