This week's pickup review
Good balance of size and function
I replaced the gauges on my CRF250M (MD38) to replace the headlight cowl with a slimmer external one. I chose this product because I didn't need a tachometer.
For the installation, I replaced the connector with a Japan Aviation Electronics/16P025K-PH-MX34-JAE-M connector while looking at the circuit diagram in the service manual so that I could connect directly to the stock harness. The speed signal could not be taken from the stock speed sensor, so I installed the optional magnet sensor on the front.
I set the fuel gauge at 250Ω (stock is 220 ohms), and the tire circumference at 1840mm (110-70-17), and compared it to the GPS speed measurement on my phone.
I can calculate the error and track it down, but it's accurate enough as it is.
The blue backlighting is just right and the gauges are easy to read even at night, and although the display size is about 20% smaller than the stock one, you can check it easily enough.
