Yamaha YZF-R3 Owner Review

Introducing the passionate story of Usagino JUN who rides a YZF-R3, from Webike Community "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

He shares his reviews of the YZF-R3, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle
I bought a DT50 in my second year of high school, got off the motorcycle in my early 20s with an FZ250, and got back into motorcycling at age 39 with a used VT250F. I decided to make my dream of a big motorcycle a reality and ride four GSX-R750, ZX-10R, F800S, and ZX-10R, and this year I decided to switch to a TZR250 from the 10R and get off the big motorcycle for a while. In the meantime, I added two more motorcycles in the 250cc class, YZF-R25 and then YZF-R3, which are now my main motorcycles.

How long I have been riding this motorcycle?
Since I purchased in July 2019 up to present

Motive for purchase and use
I've been riding the R25 for two years, but every time I read about the minor changes to the YZF-R25/R3. I wondered how it had evolved and how the fun had increased. I was so curious about it that I decided to switch to the R3, which has a larger displacement. I've been driving it on winding roads and beaches within 1.5 hours each way.

Satisfaction and Strengths

For applications
The 320cc engine gives the motorcycle plenty of room to lurch forward as soon as you open the gas pedal, which the R25 doesn't have, and I'm convinced that's the amount of time it takes to inspect the motorcycle. There are many parts that can be diverted from the 2015 model year, making it easy to tweak the motorcycle. The stock parts feel cheap.

For riding
The combination of the stock radial tires and the inverted suspension makes it very comfortable to drive through the corners. The brakes also seem to have sufficient stopping power. The average fuel consumption is about 32km/L, which is good for fuel economy.

I'm good at slow and steady driving. It is also good at sport driving at a faster pace. I think it's a good all-rounder.

For appearance
The shape of the cowl is very elaborate, and the expression changes depending on the angle you look at it, so I think the real thing looks cooler than the photo.

Dissatisfaction and Weaknesses

For applications
I don't have any complaints about this, but I think the rear seat storage space is too small and it is hard to open and close the rear seat.

For riding
There is a lot of vibration in the middle of over 6000rpm (just about 100km/h on the highway)

For appearance
The appearance is very beautiful, but the burrs on the frame and the finish of some parts are rough. (Not dissatisfied level)

Summary

◎ For beginners and veterans

  • It has a sports performance that can keep up with big motorcycles on ordinary roads, so people who want to ride around corners comfortably
  • People who want to ride at their own pace
  • Beginners who want to learn how to ride
  • Experienced riders who are tired of the weight of a big motorcycle.

In summary, if you can afford a little bit of a regular 2-wheeler and only own one motorcycle, this one's for you! I can recommend it.

Thank you, Usagino JUN, for your story that shows your love for YZF-R3 so clearly!
