Honda XE50 Owner Review
Introducing a passionate story of "Karashi Renkon" who ride XE50, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.
He shared his review of the XE50, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.
Brief self-introduction
Motorcycle history
II am still in my 6th year and it's been two years since I got my license.
How to enjoy my motorcycle on a regular basis
I use it on a daily basis for commuting purposes, but it can also be played in mountains, rivers, off-road courses, and mini circuits.
How long have I been riding this motorcycle?
It started in 2016, so four years total. In case you're wondering, it was made in 1976, so it's older than me.
Motive for purchase
I was looking for a 4-mini at an auction and it was a rusty immovable junk and 2 admonitions and cheap (straight up!)
Satisfaction
For applications
It's handy because it's easy to handle on the road, off the road, and in bad weather and can be used for any purpose.
For riding
For an old motorcycle, it performs well and is fun to ride. There's a lot you can do on the rider's side, so I'm learning a lot.
For appearance
It's age-appropriate and tired, but it's easy because it's a basic off-road motorcycle and I don't have to worry about it being dirty.
Dissatisfaction
For applications
If the battery is 6v, the lighting is suddenly cut off while riding at night, and all the batteries may be replaced. Periodic charging is indispensable because it is easy to run out of electricity due to lack of power generation even if converted to 12v. Since the ignition system is a point system, the shops that can handle it are limited, and you will inevitably be on your own for inspection, adjustment, and maintenance.
Various wires, such as brakes, clutch, speed/tachometer, etc., must also be maintained on a regular basis.
For riding
Because it is an old design, the load on the rider is very heavy, and easy to get tired when you ride hard. It's hard to keep up with the riders on fast-flowing roads, even on ordinary roads. It is very dangerous on windy days because the vehicle is light and small.
For appearance
It's quicker to take it all apart and polish and paint it because it's full of rust all over the place. It's getting difficult to get the STD exterior parts even at auction sites (I'm running out of money).
Summary
- If you like vintage motorcycles or want to have fun with VMX, this is recommended for you.
- For those who want to learn basic motorcycle maintenance,
- Those who are not afraid of a little trouble.
Thanks to the modernization work we've been doing, we can now ride the motorcycle more normally than before. However, if you don't want to have unnecessary troubles, I strongly recommend you to change to APE electrical system and ENG. By the way, please be careful not to roll up the engine when converting to a 100cc engine.
Now that the production model is finished, I've been using it a lot like a training motorcycle for SEGARE, but I think it's mainly used as a commuter motorcycle and for exploring the forest roads.
It has a good foot grounding and is quite easy to drive with two wheels and two feet, so if you don't do anything crazy, you can drive it on some roads even with the stock suspension. However, the suspension is so weak that if you drive it too fast, it will bottom out and kill your wrist.
If you want to use it for other types of vehicles, you can make it longer and easier to drive, but it will be too heavy and ordinary to be interesting. If you want to use it mainly on the road, you need to strengthen the suspension.
Since various parts related to APE and monkeys can be diverted, the aftermarket is not troubled, but as for the original, I recommend you to buy it immediately if you want it in the auction because the number of the original is decreasing every year.
That's all, but it's something like a baton from the old duo, and I miss it. I would love to attend again if I have the opportunity.
Thank you, Karashi Renkon, for sharing the story of your beloved XE50!
