Honda VT250 SPADA Owner Review

Introducing a passionate story of "Commuter" who ride VT250 SPADA, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

He shared his review of the VT250 SPADA, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle

I started out with a moped that could be ridden with a car license, and then got a motorcycle license because I hated the 30km/h speed limit.

After that, I gradually moved up to a large motorcycle, and I also own a smaller displacement motorcycle as a second motorcycle. Since I don't change motorcycles  that often, I have only ridden a few models over the years.

The large motorcycle I own is used almost exclusively for touring, while the second motorcycle is often used for daily transportation.

How long have I've been riding this motorcycle and why did I buy it?
I rode from mopeds to large motorcycles, but I also owned a second moped that I could ride easily. However, considering the high speed accessibility, the size of the storage space, the tax, the cost of consumables, etc., I came to the conclusion that the 250cc class was the most cost effective for a second, and switched from mopeds to the SPADA , which was cheaper at the time and which I liked the most for its styling.

I use it for daily transportation and occasional touring. Purchased used in 2004 and still in use.

Satisfaction

It is very easy to ride and handle. As long as the consumables are replaced properly, there is no sign of breakage. There are no complicated computer controls on the engine, so it's simple and easy to maintain, even for amateurs.

Its styling is inspired by Italian design. The recent sharp and complicated designs are also cool, but I like the simple design that doesn't look too old-fashioned. However, it looks a bit awkward when viewed from the side, as shown in the catalog photo.

Lightweight and rigid aluminum frame. Compared to steel tube frames, this frame provides a more stable ride with no warping.

Cost-effective suspension. All sliding parts are equipped with ball or needle roller bearings. The axles are as thick as those of mid-size motorcycles and thicker, so I'm not worried about the rigidity.

A full range of equipment. A tachometer and a six-speed transmission are provided. It also comes standard with a helmet holder that can be unlocked with the same key as the main key.

Dissatisfaction

Weak brakes and front end of suspension that need improvement.

The fuel tank has a small capacity of 11 liters. However, it is not too small considering the fuel efficiency.

Headlights with insufficient amount of light. Moreover, the diameter is smaller than modern retro-naked (round eye) lights. I'm using 180mm diameter multi-reflector light (for other models of Honda) which is a STD modification for old motorcycles. I would like to recommend these lights not only from the point of function but also from the point of appearance (old-fashioned feeling will be changed).

This is an unstable side stand that was only used at the time of release. If you use it without the grounding rubber parts, which are often missing in used motorcycles, it will not stop at the correct position and may fall over on its own while parked.

There is no fuel gauge. For those who don't know, it may be difficult to understand the meaning of fuel cock switching.

The wind pressure is strong when driving at high speed, which is natural since it's a naked model. I installed a DAYTONA windscreen to deal with it.

Summary

It's not flashy, so if you're looking for an on-road vehicle that you can take your time and not get bored with for a long time. In addition, for those who want to do maintenance by themselves, this is the best choice because it is easy to tinker with and inexpensive to maintain.

It's a stylish version of a masterpiece VT series, and I think it's a motorcycle that can still be ridden today without feeling old-fashioned with a little work. If you want to ride it, get it and use it before it gets scrapped.
