APRILIA RS125 Owner Review

Introducing a passionate story of "Nosuke" who ride RS125, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

He shared his review of the RS125, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle
I am a returning rider for the first time in over 10 years. It's been 9 years since I came back. Usually, on my day off, I go touring in search of the winding mountain roads around the Kanto area and its spectacular scenery. Occasionally, I also go out for a long touring trip. I have a Hypermotard 796 on my main and an Aprilia RS125 on my second.

How long I have been riding this motorcycle?
Since July 2004, I have restored a 1995 APRILIA RS125 and made it my second motorcycle, so I have been with it for 4 years and have about 10,000 km on it.

Motive for purchase and use
I rode a Ninja 250SL that I rented while my Hypermotard 796 was in the hospital, and I was reminded of the fun of a light motorcycle. After that, I gradually wanted a motorcycle with a Moto3-like size for my second motorcycle.

After looking around, I wanted to ride a nostalgic 2-stroke, so I got an APRILIA RS125 (age of the half-moon lights, aluminum frame, and swingarm are cool! As I researched the motorcycle, I found out that major parts were available in other countries, that there were bore up kits available, and that even at 125cc, it had full power of 34 horsepower, which is just like a racer. I ended up buying what I thought was a 1995 model at an auction for cheap. From there I restored it myself so that I could ride it.

Satisfaction

For applications
The 2-stroke 125cc engine has enough power for touring on national roads and mountain roads. You can lead the flow of the motorcycle before the power band.

For riding
It is a 2-stroke 125cc motorcycle, so it has great acceleration in the powerband. Because it is lightweight and has a solid chassis, it is very fun to drive on the mountain roads. It has a good feeling that you can ride through the mountain passes in Japan.

For appearance
The full-size body is so large that it's hard to believe it's a 125cc motorcycle, and with the thick frame, swingarm and upside-down forks, it's far more luxurious than a Japanese 125cc motorcycle.

Dissatisfaction

For applications
The position is low on the racer replica, so you'll suffer neck and back damage on long distances, and you'll experience the harshness of the position on the way home, as you can't get into the highway due to the fate of the 125cc.

For riding
The high seat height makes it hard to get your footing, so you need to be careful when stopping and making U-turns. However, the body of the motorcycle is light, so I have little concern.

For appearance
I removed the flashy OEM stickers and simplified the base to black.

Summary

I recommend it to those who understand the fun of riding a 2-stroke single-cylinder engine, who can keep it in good condition as parts are supplied, and who have the maintenance skills to change the main jet at least. The acceleration of the 2-stroke engine is very addictive.
