[Honda CBF190R] Details and Test Drive Impressions

The CBF190R, built by Honda of Xintai Shu in China, has a 184cc OHC engine. Despite the fact that the motocycle is equipped with an inverted fork and radial tires, the suspension is still very much intact. How aggressive will it be? Former chief editor of a motorcycle magazine for beginners, Hiroaki Yatagai, reports on the test ride.

Driving on Radial Tires - Real Driving Impressions

And it's fun to attack it on radial tires!

Until a long time ago, if you rode a bike manufactured overseas like this, even if it was a famous manufacturer, you'd say, "Well, not so good. !" I used to be tempted to say something like that, but recently the bar has been raised considerably. In the past, the line between "business motocycle" and "sports motocycle" was drawn based on form alone, and even those who made the motocycles had to make them. I've had a lot of twitchy spec motocycles that I didn't understand, but I got on this CBF190R and When you look at it, you'll be surprised to see how well it's built as a sports bike.

Firstly, we tried the high speed riding, which is the most interesting thing about a machine in this displacement range. Whereas most sportbikes are in sixth gear, this machine is in fifth gear. "I'm sure the top speed will be quicker to head off, right?" I started out with a naïve perspective, but I didn't feel that the motocycle was lacking in terms of top speed and stability. There is nothing special about it. It is true that the top speed is a little more than 120km/h, and overtaking acceleration is not good, but the high speed In terms of getting somewhere on the road, it's perfectly fine. A simple benchmark is that it can normally be driven on the same level as a light motocycle on the highway. In terms of bodywork, there's nothing to worry about in terms of overtaking, lane changes, etc. on the highway. There is nothing to worry about, so you can ride with confidence.
The only thing that bothers me at high speed is that it is an air-cooled engine. We haven't tried the long run on this impression, but the displacement of this kind of engine is not that great. Smaller air-cooled engines tend to have a higher regular rpm range on the highway. They are not good at long highway runs in summer. So you need to give it a rest once every hour or so to see how it's doing. As long as you take care of that, you can go out for long distance touring, mainly on highways, without any problems. You will be able to.

Next up was the winding section. The standard equipment on the CBF190 is radial tyres, which are stiff and designed for high-range sport riding. The standard equipment on the CBF190's bias tires were designed to be more comfortable and less expensive than the CBF190's bias tires. The "R" is a radial tire.

So you're making it up as you go along, right? Then let's give it a try! I tried to hang on to it at the tightest corners, but it was unexpectedly fun. The displacement is 184cc and the engine power is not exactly plentiful, but the suspension is a low-cost It's so solid it's hard to believe it's a machine, and it's fun to corner. It's not a high quality suspension, but the movement of the frame and suspension is excellent. It's very well balanced and well organized. The grip information from the tires is very well balanced with the grip of the radial tires. You can feel it as if you are taking the motocycle to the ground. So it's easy to feel how hard the tires are pressing on the ground, and the accelerator is wide It's easy to open up and control the brakes in nervous situations. In short, it's easy to drive aggressively.
When the bank sensor started to make a crisp sound, I eased off the gas pedal, but if the place is a good place, it's not a bad place to drive. It's not that I was told to scrape my knees, but I made a character who could crawl and say two words. It is. This CBF190R is a fun motocycle that can be enjoyed in a sporting environment.

[Engine type/displacement] Air-cooled 4-stroke OHC single-cylinder/184cc
[Maximum output] 12.4kW/8,000rpm
[Maximum torque] 16.3Nm/7,000rpm

The calculated maximum output is 16 hp at 8,000 rpm and 1.6 kg-m of torque at 7,000 rpm. The gears are five-speed, and it looks about the same as the Suzuki Bang Bang 200 that was around a while back.

handle

ph_0484.jpg
ph_0495.jpg

The separate handlebars are set quite high and the position is not cramped. In sport driving, it seems to be sturdy and easy to control.

suspension system (of a vehicle)

ph_0373.jpg
ph_0402.jpg

[Tire Size] Front: 110/70R-17/Rear: 140/70R-17
The suspension is a gorgeous piece of kit. The front fork is an inverted 36mm front fork (actual measurement), and the rear is a monoshock. The rear monoshock tires were chosen to be sportier than the bias tires.

brakes

ph_0516.jpg
ph_0553.jpg

[Front] Nissin single-pressed 2-pot/petal disc
[Rear] Nissin single press 1 pot/petal disc
It has a single-channel ABS, and the front brake prevents grabbing and rolling due to emergency braking. It's a great feature if you use it regularly on your commute to work or school in the rain.

sprocket

ph_0407.jpg

The swing arm is a square pipe type made of steel, but the chain adjuster part does not look cheap. It is ingenious. The sprockets are 45 sprockets and the chain is a 428 size non-seal chain.

rear suspension

ph_0543-302x453.jpg

The suspension is a monoshock, but is installed as a linkless type. Preload adjustment is possible for double occupancy and loading.

seat

ph_0434.jpg

One-piece seat with a large gouged rider's seat. The tandem seat has a non-slip finish and stylish coloured stitching.

muffler

ph_0546.jpg

The sporty silencer is a triangular shaped silencer for a better banking angle. The crisp sound is not too noisy.

step

ph_0536.jpg

The same CBF190 series has been reworked around the steps and the TR, with "R" being the plate Type. The positions are almost identical.

Detail Utility

fuel tank

ph_0462.jpg
ph_0476.jpg

[Fuel capacity] 12L
The gasoline is specified as regular unleaded, which is very economical. The fuel lid (fueling port) is hinged and has a large opening for easy refueling. 12L tank The range will naturally be longer thanks to the

center stand

ph_0392.jpg

It's a non-seal chain, so you'll likely have to lubricate and adjust the center stand on a daily basis. Convenient to work with as standard equipment.

tandem step

ph_0425.jpg

The retractable tandem step has a heel hold section that can be used as a cargo hook point. The stay is also a bolt-on type.

Retractable Cargo Hook

ph_0444.jpg
ph_0447.jpg

The folding cargo hooks were stored on the back of the seat. The middle and position of the tandem seat seems a bit awkward to use.

Tools

ph_0458.jpg

It's not exactly luxurious in terms of content or construction, but it's a rare thing nowadays to be able to use it to adjust the preload of the suspension. A wrench is included.

tandem grip

ph_0561.jpg

In addition to the band on the seat, there's a dent in the front of the tail light, and that's where the tandemer grips It's on point.

switchbox

ph_0608.jpg

Right: Starter switch / Headlight ON & OFF / Kill switch

ph_0503.jpg
ph_0602.jpg

Left: Headlight Switching & Passing / Turn signals / Horn

The shape of the switch box looks like a normal switch box, but I was surprised when I drove it at night! LEDs are built into the switch box to make it easy to see the switch at night.

summary

ph_0591-302x453.jpg

Affordable, yet fun to wind down. It's highly versatile, so it's perfect for everyday use as well as for entry-level riders who want to go touring. I would recommend it.
