There are many custom parts that only you can see that you have changed them or you have to look at them carefully, but they are very effective when you ride.

I'm going to show you one of those parts, the chromoly axle shaft!

What is an axle shaft?

The axle shaft is the shaft that runs through the center of the wheel and unites the front fork, swingarm and wheel.

What are you doing?

  1. The two suspensions are connected and integrated to make the same movement at the same time (front).
  2. Transfers the load input to the tires and wheels to the suspension
  3. The bearing, distance collar, and axle collar at the hub of the wheel are integrated and fixed with the least friction.
  4. Determine the position of the brake disc and sprocket to the center of the caliper and chain line.

What the hell is chromoly anyway?

The official name is "Chromium Molybdenum Steel". It is an alloy made by adding a very small amount of chromium and molybdenum to iron.
0 carbon.1 to 0.5%, chromium 0.9 to 1.2 %, molybdenum 0.15 to 0.It is stipulated that it shall contain in the range of 45%.
It is used for various applications such as bicycle frames, crank shafts, stabilizers, and aircraft leg parts because its strength does not change even in high temperature and high pressure environments and its moderate "flexing" absorbs vibration.

Chrome-moly shafts are also being adopted as genuine products.

In fact, recent large SS and other models may use chromoly shafts as standard.
So there's no need to change to ...... chromoly axle shafts, ......? You would think so, right?

Also, when we think of custom parts, we often think of weight reduction by changing the material from steel to titanium or other materials in the muffler, but changing to a chromoly shaft does not change the weight that much.

So why is an external chromoly shaft available?

Advantage 1: Increased rigidity

Since the axle shaft is one of the rigid components of the suspension, high rigidity and strength are required.
It is the only thing that constantly receives large forces such as "torsion" while driving, connects the wheel and suspension, and supports the weight of the vehicle.
By reinforcing this part, the suspension is able to operate properly against external forces from the road surface during driving, and the tires are able to contact the road surface stably, thus improving straight-line stability and minimizing yawing when cornering.

→Compared to the stock shaft, the rigidity of the shaft is improved, and the cornering performance is improved by increasing the ground contact feeling of the front.
→Stable braking is also possible as the footing at the back becomes more effective during braking.

Advantage 2: Increased accuracy

With the exception of a few special vehicles, production vehicles are constrained by cost, and there are many areas where compromises must be made.
The stock axles are also not as precise as they could be due to cost. The tolerances are also wider, and simply put, they are made thinner than the original size we wanted to make.

The external chromoly shaft is finished with high precision at a cost. This way, the bearing, distance collar, and side collar are neatly aligned, approaching the ideal structure envisioned by the developer.
Also, in order to turn the bearing with low friction, it is necessary to apply the correct amount of pressure, which can be close to the ideal pressure.

→By increasing the shaft accuracy of the shaft, the wheel rotation loss is reduced and the pushing and pulling becomes lighter.

Chromium molybdenum steel is used with a mill sheet (steel inspection certificate) from a Japanese manufacturer that guarantees reliable quality.
