TRT27 AZ Moto’s early exit from the 8 Hours of Spa Motos not only prevented the French outfit from challenging for an EWC Superstock category podium, it also served as a reminder of the tough nature of endurance racing, according to team chief Eric Tánesie.
Honda-powered TRT AZ Moto was in the podium fight at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps earlier this month but its hopes of finishing in the top three among the FIM Endurance World Cup competitors were dashed when team newcomer and EWC rookie Alex Olsen was unable to avoid crashing early in his stint.
“Unfortunately, the #27 Honda did not take the chequered flag despite a very promising start to the race,” Tánesie wrote on Facebook.
“A fantastic first relay from Tom Ward lifted us from 17th to 13th position on the first lap and we were 10th overall and second in Superstock during the passing of the handlebar.
“A flying Tom Oliver kept us between third and fifth in the Superstock category. Unfortunately, #5 falls, then #86, us and then #25 and #9. One assumed there was oil and that’s just bad luck. Alex Olsen fell at Malmedy after his first lap and put an end to our podium hopes.
“After inspection, the motorcycle is too damaged and it was with a heavy heart that the decision was made to sign the waiver sheet [and retire]. It’s a tough law of endurance, but the potential was there.
“Our team won’t get any less stronger and motivated, we’ll work harder and push even harder to achieve our goals.”
