Wójcik Racing Team achieved its seemingly impossible mission of racing in two countries during the same weekend – and did so by finishing on the podium.
On 8 June, Wójcik Racing Team was in action in the 8 Hours of Spa Motos, round two of the FIM Endurance World Championship. By the next day, the Honda-powered outfit had made it to Poznań for the second event of the Polish championship season.
After finishing 12th among the Formula EWC contenders at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, and having covered some 1250 kilometres in the process, Jurand Kuśmierczyk and Artur Wielebski were ready to race again the following day – but this time 920 kilometres away in Poznań, Poland.
And the 10-hour journey was more than worth it with Wielebski landing a podium double in the Superstock 1000 category and Kuśmierczyk placing third in the second Superbike counter, as Wójcik Racing Team’s 18-year-old Polish talent Mateusz Molik claimed a Superstock 600 win double.
The points finish for the #77 Wójcik entry at Spa, which also featured Kamil Krzemień, and the achievements of Kuśmierczyk, Molik and Wielebski in Poland, helped to make up for the disappointment experienced by Wójcik’s #777 Superstock squad in Belgium. It followed a high-speed crash for Danny Webb, which ended a solid podium push for the Briton and team-mates Kevin Manfredi and Sheridan Morais.
“Our team has again achieved something that seems impossible,” said Wójcik Team Manager Sławomir Kubzdyl.
“Starting in two different series in two parts of Europe in one weekend seemed like a crazy idea. However, we managed to perfectly implement our plan, although we only appeared in Poznan for the qualifications, without the possibility to participate in testing. I would like to thank the whole team for this.“In Spa we showed that although we are always learning our new Honda motorcycles, we have already built a very good understanding and relationship with HRC and we are competitive. At the same time, the 777 crew also showed great character, including Danny, who, despite the accident, wanted to continue riding with broken bones. We have an amazing team, so we're very optimistic looking ahead. At the same time in WMMP we are fighting for the titles, which makes us happy, although we still have a long way to go until the end of the season.”
Webb, who helped Wójcik Racing Team qualify second in the Dunlop-equipped Superstock division, said:
“Not the way we wanted to end, my stint was going well, we was doing low 25s/high 24s, which was one of the quickest out there. But out of nowhere the rear just come round on me and high-sided me. I can’t apologise enough to the team for this mistake. We was on for a good result, I don’t know what happened but all I can do is apologise. The team done a great job this weekend and so did my team-mates.”
