At the "My Yamaha Motorcycle Day Touch" held on June 15 at Kobe's Meriken Park, the New MT-09SP, which is scheduled to go on sale on July 24, was on display. We checked out every detail and the riding position when straddling the motorcycle.

"The Knight Horse" armed with advanced equipment

The new MT-09 was launched in April of this year, and the new MT-09SP was immediately announced as its high-end grade. The new MT-09SP has already been on sale in Europe, but it is still fresh in our minds that it was officially launched in Japan in July of this year.

The MT-09, a member of the YAMAHA lineup since 2014, is a 3-cylinder naked sports motorcycle created based on the concept of "allowing the rider to control it at will. The MT-09 has been refined through numerous minor changes and full model changes, while incorporating elements of the Super Motard series into a naked-style chassis.

The concept behind the development of the new MT-09 is "The Knight Horse" (meaning "Cavalry Horse"), and the 888cc Crossplane engine delivers 120ps and the latest CF (Controlled Filling) aluminum die-cast frame. The higher-end model, the SP, is truly a "Cavalry Horse," a machine with a level of perfection that can be called a "Cavalry Horse".

The MT-09SP made its first public appearance. The main differences from the standard model are the upgraded suspension and smart key. It is equipped with equipment similar to a Supersport model and is designed to withstand control at high speeds and under heavy loads.

See the MT-09SP's exclusive equipment, including a smart key, OHLINS rear shock, and BREMBO monoblock calipers!

Now, it is time to check out the exclusive features of the MT-09SP. First, the KYB front suspension is fully adjustable, with preload and rebound and compression damping adjustment on each side. The damping adjustment has 26 rebound levels, 18 low speed and 5 high speed on the compression side.. Five-level adjustment is possible. Damping adjustment can be made at the top of the fork for rebound side and at the bottom of the fork for compression side.

The Ohlins rear suspension was developed exclusively for the model and has a rich damping adjustment range of 30 rebound levels and 20 compression levels. Brembo Stylema® monoblock calipers are installed on the front brakes, which feature larger-diameter pistons than those on the standard MT-09. Radial mounts were used to maintain rigidity and reduce weight.

The use of a smart key, which is not equipped on the regular MT-09, gives the bike a special feel that is typical of higher grades. The key eliminates cylinder wear caused by removing and inserting the key, and the bike can literally be started up in a smart manner.

MT-09SP in a more aggressive position

The MT-09SP allows the rider to change the handlebar and step position in two different patterns to suit his or her preference. The basic riding position is slightly forward leaning, and the step position is slightly rearward. This is intended to contribute to improved stability and ground feel over a wider speed range.

This allows the rider to experience the sportiness in a natural way, and to more clearly feel YAMAHA's concept of "human-machine sensuality," the integration of man and machine. The SP's reinforced suspension allows the rider to enjoy the sporty ride even at high speeds.

mt09spyamahaibento20

It is not an upright riding position, but it is a riding position that allows the rider to maintain a natural stance.

The side view shows that the position is easy to apply load to the front.

Remains in a natural position even when the woman straddles it
