Europe: YZF-R1/YZF-R1M Public Road Models to End in 2024; Race-Based Models continue to be Sold

Yamaha has announced the end of sales of the YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M public road models in Europe as of 2024; after 2025, only race-based models will be available, while development of GYTR performance parts will continue.

Yamaha cites changes in the external environment as the reason for ending sales of its public road models. In addition to the changing needs of riders, tighter emission regulations have had a significant impact on the supersport category. the YZF-R1 series will be discontinued, but the R7, R3, and R125 will continue to be available as public road models.

However, the company completely denies that it will discontinue production of the YZF-R1 series and will continue development. The company is fully committed to the GYTR (OEM Yamaha Technology Racing) strategy and other initiatives aimed at circuit users, from amateur to professional level.

On July 3, Yamaha will hold a circuit event in Jerez, where Valentino Rossi will be present, and owners of the R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary, launched in 2023, and the YZF-R1M, purchased in 2024, will be invited to join other Yamaha riders and The event will be a great opportunity to enjoy the racing experience with other Yamaha riders.

In Japan, it has not been announced that sales of the YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M public road models will be terminated, but it is still fresh in our minds that the Niken GT was terminated in Japan with the 2024 model year. In addition, there has been a case of improper application for type designation for the R1 in Japan, and the situation is still uncertain. 2024 YZF-R1M European specifications. This model year will be the last for public road use in Europe. The introduction of Euro 5+ (plus) emission regulations, which require a catalyst degradation detection function, is thought to be a factor.
