As previously reported, TRICK STAR, a well-known racing exhaust developer, is challenging the Kawasaki ZX-4RR to reach a top speed of 300 km/h while maintaining the same displacement.
The actual ZX-4RR Turbo for this challenge was displayed at the recently held Nagoya Motorcycle Show.
We want to take a closer look at the machine that is taking on this unprecedented project.

New project ZX-4RR turbo project launched in July 2023

Since 2015, TRICK STAR has been conducting top-speed attacks based on Kawasaki sports models.
In 2015, the team reached 385 km/h (actual speed 352 km/h) with the H2R, and in 2020, the team marked a meter reading of 259 km/h (actual speed 250 km/h) with the ZX-25R equipped with a turbo. Both of these challenges are beyond the limits of the machine, but the new challenge announced today is to install a turbo in the ZX-4RR, aiming to exceed 300 km/h. The ZX-4RR turbo will be used in the ZX-25R and the ZX-25R turbo will be used in the ZX-25R. This challenge, dubbed the "ZX-4RR turbo project," will begin at the same time the ZX-4RR goes on sale in July 2023. The prototype was completed in March of this year, and shakedown began at the Spa Nishiura Motor Park in Aichi Prefecture.

At first glance, the body looks no different from the standard model, but the side cowl has the word "TURBO" on it.

As this is still the prototype, it is expected to take on the challenge of reaching 300 km in stages.

Aiming to deliver approximately 180 PS when pressurized! The target is to more than double the power from STD.

The prototype on display this time is the first such machine that has just been completed. The turbine is designed to use a medium turbine out of the large, medium, and small types for automobiles, and currently measures 80 PS of output at the rear wheel. This is the same output as the standard ZX-4RR when ram air is pressurized.
At this rate, it is impossible to achieve 300 km/h, but later boost pressure will be increased, with the ultimate goal of 1.0 khp. The boost pressure of 0.1khp is expected to increase the power by approximately 10PS, so the target is approximately 180PS!

In the previous ZX-25R Turbo Challenge, it took a year and a half from the start in July 2021 to achieve the 250 km/h record, overcoming problems such as clutch slippage and engine blowouts. Further improvements are expected to continue on the ZX-4RR Turbo from the current stage while making use of this know-how. The challenge continues toward a new legend.

Of course, the engine is the one to watch. A turbine is inserted in the middle of the exhaust pipe, which is a completely different arrangement from the standard one.

An air cleaner for fresh air intake can be seen on the left side of the turbine. The under-cowl has been removed to accommodate these additions.

Takehiro Yamamoto is the test rider for this machine. He has experience winning the 2015 Asia Road Racing Championship AP250 on a Ninja 250.

The booth will also display Team KWT machines and new products

In addition to the ZX-4RR Turbo, a variety of other TRICK STAR products were on display at the booth. Among them were the ZX-10R, a Team Kawasaki Webike TRICKSTAR race machine currently competing in the FIM World Endurance Championship, and the new ZX-6R-compatible IKAZUCHI, fully remodeled for the 2024 model year, which is a must-see for fans.
TRICKSTAR is also active in racing, and there is no end to expectations for products that bring out 120% of the potential of sports machines in the future!
