Yamaha displayed its latest SR400 at the Thailand International Motor Expo, which began on November 29. The coloring is matte gray and white, enhancing the beauty of the simple SR.
45 years after its birth in 1978, it is still running!
The classic Japanese style is popular in Thailand and is the backdrop for Honda's sales of the Monkey 125 and Super Cub. Yamaha has announced the PG-1 to compete with these models at the Thai Motor Expo, but the old SR400 is also on display. Yamaha has been selling the SR400 in Thailand since 2014, and this is its latest model.
Yamaha has not only launched the SR400 in response to Thai riders' preferences, but has also been steadily promoting its popularity, and customization has been more active in Thailand than in Japan. And because exhaust gas and brake regulations are not as strict in Thailand as they are in Japan, new SR400s continue to be sold in Thailand.
Yamaha went the heritage route in 2014 and started selling the SR400 not only in Thailand but also in Europe and the US, but it has already disappeared from the lineup and Thailand seems to be the only country where it is sold. If the company continues to prolong its life, parts supply is not likely to be a concern for some time.
The two colors displayed at the Motor Expo were matte gray metallic and silky white, the 2023 color. The specs and specifications match the last model released in Japan, but the price is a step different at 295,000 baht (about 8430 USD).
Still, we would like to give a shout-out to the SR400, which is surviving.
SR400 Thailand specs [YAMAHA] The new matte gray metallic coloring is ultra-simple, with no pattern at all. The headlight case is also painted in the same color.
The matching black rims are austere. At the front of the crankcase, one can see the same canister as the last SR400 domestic version released in November 2018.
The meter dials are white. The same old switch box, dry-sump engine oil filler, and other features have survived.
Glass-lens headlights are a rarely seen feature anymore.
Tail lamps are square. The round indicators are inherited from those changed for the domestic 2019 model year.
Other color variations include silky white.
White has a subtle stripe on the tank.
The side cover has "SINCE 1978" on it. It is the 45th anniversary.
The SR400 is loved by Thai riders and continues to run. How long will it last?
