From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them. This time, here's what the owners have to say about Husqvarna「701 Enduro」
To be honest, the Husqvarna "701 Enduro" is this kind of bike!
The 701 Enduro is Husqvarna's big off-roader. It is categorized as TRAVEL in the company's model lineup, so it is designed for touring.
Another model in Husqvarna's TRAVEL category is the Norden 901. The Norden 901 is an adventure tourer model equipped with an 889cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder engine. In contrast, the 701 Enduro is powered by a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 692.7 cc. The Norden 901 weighs well over 200 kg, while the 701 Enduro weighs less than 150 kg. Even though they are in the same TRAVEL category, the 701 Enduro was built with off-road riding in mind, and it is a model with high performance for riding on dirt roads.
The engine's maximum output is 55 kW, which translates to about 75 horsepower.
With this engine mounted on a vehicle weighing less than 150 kg, the driving experience is truly exciting. However, it is not just an extreme engine. It is equipped with advanced electronic control and a power mode switching function. The engine can be easily handled for city driving and touring, and its full power can be unleashed when you want to ride vigorously.
The valve mechanism of the 701 Enduro's engine is SOHC. While the idea of DOHC engines as high-performance engines is strong, and SOHC engines are sometimes said to be for utility vehicles, the 701 Enduro's engine has its origins in racing machines.
This engine, named LC4, was created by KTM in the 1980s for motocrossers and enduro racers.
The reason for the KTM engine is due to the fact that Husqvarna is now a KTM-owned brand. Husqvarna was originally a Swedish general machinery manufacturer with a long history, having started producing motorcycles in the early 1900s. But in the 1980s, the motorcycle division was sold to Kajba. It was then re-sold to BMW, and KTM acquired the brand in 2013. As a result, Husqvarna's current lineup shares many of its basic components with KTM motorcycles.
The 701 Enduro is also based on KTM's 690 SMC R supermotard model. It shares not only the same engine but also the same trellis frame and chassis configuration with the fuel tank positioned along the seat rail.
Generally, the fuel tank is installed in a dummy tank location, but an extra tank that can be added to the dummy tank is available as a factory option. The use of a larger tank dramatically increases the cruising range, which improves the 701's merits as an enduro touring bike. However, considering its high off-road performance, it should be considered a rally raid part rather than a touring option.
The suspension is set up specifically for the 701 Enduro, and the shock unit is made by high-performance WP. It is fully prepared for off-road driving, and the minimum ground clearance is also secured. Although it does not have good suspension, a lowering kit is available as a factory option, so don't let the size of the vehicle stop you from making it your favorite motorcycle. Powerful and lightweight, the 701 Enduro is a vehicle that many people should be able to experience.

- Good fuel economy

- In summer, the cooling fan spins all the time while the engine is running.
- Vibrations are loud. My palms go numb with a jingly feeling.
701 Enduro Owner's Voice
Here are some of the most impressive voices among the many reviews.
Jacosuki (2020 Model)
Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models | Anyway, I wanted a lightweight big off-road vehicle. I compared it to the Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 690, and 890. |
---|---|
Advantages/Satisfactory points | - It is light and nimble, with the weight of a 250cc bike and the power of a 700cc bike. - The suspension stroke gives it the feeling of not bottoming out after a few bumps and jumps. - The style is slim and exhilarating. |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points | - The foot landing is as good as a motocrosser. Both toes are tapping. - Because of the long side stand, it is difficult to lift it up with your foot while riding. - The seat is hard, and your buttocks will hurt if you sit on it for a long time. - The load-carrying capacity is not good. Need to make some adjustments. - The exhaust and silencer get very hot. Thanks to this, I burned a hole in the hem of my pants. - Fuel consumption. Average L25km. If it wasn't for the high-octane fuel. |
Advice for prospective buyers | It is very nimble for a big off-road bike. It is an enduro bike that can also be ridden on public roads. I guess it is a short-distance runner in the category. If you want to tour long distances with a full load of luggage, you might want to choose another adventure bike. |

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models | KTM finally stopped developing the LC4 engine and the 690 Enduro R dropped out of the catalog two years ago. Its sibling, the Husqvarna 701 Enduro, was the last off-road model with the LC4 engine (only the on-road model, the Bitpiren 701, was released, but that is currently the one and only LC4). But that 701 also dropped out after 2017. The 701 Enduro with the high-power improved LC4 engine came out for the last time as a 2017 model. There are very few of them in circulation, and there is almost no chance of finding one as a used bike in the future (even its sibling, the KTM 690 Enduro, which was made for almost 10 years, is unlikely to be used). The last one was at my favorite store, so my wife gave me the go-ahead and I bought it! |
---|---|
Advantages/Satisfactory points | Very lightweight body for a big off. It is as light as a cello. And yet it has tremendous power and terrific torque. There will never be another trail bike that surpasses this one. |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points | Fuel economy has deteriorated with the new LC4 engine. In summer, the cooling fan spins all the time while the engine is operating. I am worried about overheating when attacking abandoned roads or touring on chemo roads. The seat width is wider than that of its sibling, the KTM690 Enduro R, so the 701 has a slightly worse footing. |
Advice for prospective buyers | If you are even remotely interested in one, you should be able to get one, even if you are forced to! There are very few new ones in circulation, and most used Husqvarna and KTMs have been leaked overseas. Discontinued in 2017! I was forced to buy it because I heard that the 2019 model will be announced and! |
Harry (2017 Model)
Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models | I wanted to ride a big off-road bike. I was considering a Suzuki DR650SE or Honda XR650L when Husq announced a new bike. I went to the store to see the actual bike, and I was impressed. |
---|---|
Advantages/Satisfactory points | The engine turns crisply and responsively, and abundant torque overflows from everywhere. Supple and well-moving suspension. Excellent styling. Lightweight for a 690cc, 74 horsepower engine. Can go into even a little rough forest road. Good fuel economy. Average 23km/L, 18km/L when turning, 26km/L when cruising at a leisurely pace. |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points | Vibrations are loud. My palms feel numb. When I fell down and had to pick it up, the 145 kg dry weight of the motorcycle felt harder and harder to bear. |
Advice for prospective buyers | This super big-off is powered by the traditional LC4 engine and has been hardened with the latest suspension. It runs well. If the styling is appealing to you, this is the one to buy. |
