Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will release the "YZF-R15," a full-cowl sports model for light motorcycles, and the "YZF-R125," a moped motorcycle that shares the same basic design.
This new model is notable for its authentic riding performance and design, which is based on feedback from Yamaha's renowned YZF supersport series.
Both models share the same coloring, blue/black/gray. The YZF-R15 and YZF-R125 will be released on October 16, 2023, and are priced at (approx.) 3713 USD and (approx.) 3490 USD, respectively.
Variable valves and traction control
The YZF-R125, launched in Europe in 2009, and the YZF-R15, available in Asia since 2012, are the smallest displacement models in the "YZF" supersport series. However, neither was introduced in Japan, and the smallest model in Japan was the 250cc YZF-R25. Yamaha announced a full model change for the YZF-R15/125 at the Milan Show (EICMA) held in the fall of 2022. The new model features a completely redesigned appearance, with M-shaped ducts and bi-function LED headlights, which are used on the YZF-R7. The new model has sporty styling that rivals the larger models.
Finally, the latest YZF-R15/R125 will be released in Japan.
Equipment includes a powerful engine with VVA (variable valve), traction control, and an assist and slipper clutch. A quick shifter is also available as an accessory. These features are rarely available in the same displacement range. The bike features a reinforced delta box frame, Φ37 mm inverted front forks, and a meat-cut top bridge, and separate handlebars to deliver an athletic performance worthy of the Supersport YZF series name.
Both the YZF-R15/R125 share the same basic design, with the same body size and weight and various equipment. The YZF-R15 has a displacement of 155 cc and delivers 14 kW (19 PS)/10,000 rpm, while the YZF-R125 has a displacement of 124 cc and delivers 11 kW (15 PS)/10,000 rpm. Of course, the YZF-R125 is at a disadvantage in terms of power, but the existence of a full-fledged full-cowl sports bike that can be driven with a small motorcycle license is valuable. It will be a machine with low hurdles for entry-level riders.
The three color schemes for both the YZF-R15 and R125 are Deep Purple Blue Metallic C (blue), Dark Blueish Gray Metallic 9 (dark gray), and Black Metallic 12 (black).
In addition to the blue and black colors shared with the YZF-R1, the new lineup includes a gray color with a bright light yellow accent color.
The release date is Monday, October 16, 2023, with a planned price of (approx.) 3713 USD for the YZF-R15 and sales of 2,000 units, and (approx.) 3490 USD for the YZF-R125 and 1,000 units.
The YZF-R15/R125 was also displayed at the Spring 2023 Motorcycle Show. It is a full-fledged full-cowl sport that transcends its class.
A bi-function LED headlight similar to that of the YZF-R7 is used. It is housed in an M-shaped duct.
The multi-function LCD meter can switch between "Street Mode" and "Track Mode" for display content.
The engines are liquid-cooled OHC with optimized VVA (variable valve) and deliver manageable torque at low and mid speeds. The YZF-R15 and YZF-R125 have 155cc and 124cc engines, respectively.
The handlebars are of the combative separate type. The top bridge is finished with a YZF-R1-like butchering.
