CB400 Super Boldor (399cc)Owner: Tasukun

This corner introduces one MY BIKE submitted to Webike Community every week.
The model introduced this time is  HONDA「CB400 Super Boldor」and the owner is "Tasukun".

The CB400 Super Fordor was launched in 1992. As a variation of the CB400SF, an imposing naked model linked to Project BIG-1, the CB400 Superboldor was introduced in 2005.
As you can see, it features a large half-cowl, and its unique silhouette, different from the full-cowl Supersports and classic naked models, is unique to the Super Boldor. The cowl also has a small accessory compartment, making one wonder if it is a tourer-oriented machine, but in fact, its name comes from the 24 Hours of Bordeaux endurance race held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France, which was inspired by the spartan endurance racers. As a result, the CB400SF's ease of control, derived from the CB400SF, which was also familiar as an instructor, and the comfort of high-speed riding due to the cowl were combined to make it a versatile machine that could do just about anything and was loved by its deep-seated fans.

Tasukun, the owner of the vehicle in question, searched for a bike that was fast, satisfying for winding and touring, and easy, and he found the Super Boldor, which is versatile in any case.
The result was a great decision: it is so fast, safe, and easy to ride that you would think you were getting better at it. The engine operates well and the cornering performance is outstanding.
He even praised it so highly that he did not feel like falling off. The Super Boldor will be discontinued in 2022 along with the CB400SF, but we are sure that it will continue to be loved as the most versatile 400cc machine in the future!

Tasukun's machine is perfectly customized with Ohlins rear shocks, Earl's Gear wyvan (exhaust), and Goodridge mesh brake hoses. It also has a lot of parts!

The not-too-large chassis, engine power of 53 PS at 10,500 rpm, and excellent controllability make this machine a masterpiece that is perfect for Japanese roads.
As Tasukun said, this outstanding ease of riding can never be imitated by any other manufacturer, making it a rare masterpiece.

FROM MY BIKE COMMENTS

Motive for purchase

In 2009, he purchased his first big bike, a 1997 VTR1000F (domestic spec). I enjoyed winding and touring but was dissatisfied with the excessive power, short cruising range, and difficult riding position, so I sold it in 2010 when the vehicle inspection expired. The next choice was a bike that was fast, could satisfy my needs for winding and touring, and was easy to ride.
And the candidates were CB400SB (NC39) and CB750 (RC42). I considered many options, but I decided to buy CB400SB(NC39) because there were many used CB400SB(NC39) and CB400SB(NC39) had a lot of aftermarket parts, and each part was well made.
As a result, it was the bike I owned the longest in my motorcycle life (about 10 years).

Advantages

Everyone is talking about it, and it is indeed one word: easy to ride. It is so fast, safe, and easy to drive that you will think you are getting good at it. The engine turns well and the cornering performance is outstanding. I don't feel like falling. The cruising range is also not a problem.
It can run 300 km on a full tank. The half-cowl makes long tours easy.
A wide variety of aftermarket parts are available for customization.
Our customization included an Ohlins rear shock, an Earl's Gear Wyban (muffler), and Goodridge mesh brake hoses. The handlebars are from a CB1300, and the side cowls are from an NC42.
Although the customization is very simple, the bike is great at cornering.

Disadvantages

You can only buy a used car anymore. Used motorcycles are very expensive.
The condition of the used car is quite questionable. It is better to buy from a reputable motorcycle shop. The standard rear shock is prone to oil leakage.
Therefore, it is better to replace it with an external one.
Customization with an external carburetor is basically difficult due to the hyper V-TEC mechanism. If you want to modify the carburetor, it should be limited to a minor adjustment of the stock carburetor in conjunction with the replacement of an external exhaust system.

Advice for prospective buyers

It is the best bike for the streets of Japan. Some know-it-alls often say that they have ridden in a learner's motorcycle, but it is a completely different thing from a learner's motorcycle.
Please don't mix them up. With the end of production, the popularity of these bikes will not decline, and the market value of those in good condition is expected to increase.
However, the risk of theft is a problem. Nevertheless, the outstanding ease of riding cannot be imitated by any other manufacturer. If you are concerned about your riding technique, please consider this product at least once. We recommend it with confidence.
