Honda has launched its first electric motorcycle, the EM1e:, in Indonesia, which boasts the largest market in Asia. The EM1e: is a moped EV that will go on sale in Japan on August 24, and marks the start of Honda's global expansion in Asia.

What kind of EV models will be added by the end of the year?

Honda's EM1e: released in Indonesia does not differ in specifications from the domestic version released in Japan and is still marketed under the Class 1 moped standard. The cruising range is 41.1 km in WMTC mode and the maximum speed is 45 km/h, unlike the 30 km/h constant field test value in Japan. As in Europe, it is capable of carrying two passengers.

Smart Red, which is not available in Japan or Europe, is included in the color lineup, promoting a bright image. Three other colors, matte black and white, which are also available in Europe, are also available. The price is set at 40-45 million rupiah (about 2611 - 2955 USD), which is higher than the (approx.) 2056 USD in Japan.

Noteworthy is the information that another EV model is scheduled for release in Indonesia by the end of this year, which is expected to be the same model as the Class 2 moped EV that is expected to be released in Japan in spring 2024. There are rumors that this will not be a Class 2 moped version of the EM1e: but rather an EV based on an existing platform such as the Lead 125 or PCX.

In any case, Honda's second EV motorcycle is likely to be launched in both Indonesia and Japan, similar to the EM1e:. For a Class 2 moped, it would be a shortcut to update and sell the PCX Electric that has been used for demonstration tests in Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand.
We will keep you posted as soon as we receive further information.
