Markus Reiterberger will start Japan’s round of the FIM Endurance World Championship determined to hit back from his fall during Second Qualifying yesterday.
German Reiterberger, a two-time EWC race winner, was injured in the crash at the First Curve although his BMW M1000RR suffered extensive damage.
It has left Reiterberger’s BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team 11th on the grid for today’s 44th Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race.
“I tried to improve my lap time from [Friday] with a new set of tyres,” the Dunlop-equipped rider said. “Two laps were okay but it was a little bit slower than yesterday. I made a short stop and go out again but, unfortunately, I crashed in Turn 1. Maybe I pushed too much, I don’t know really, but I lost the front. I’m okay but the bike is destroyed. The mechanics work really hard and I’m sorry for my team-mates. I am sorry we are not in the top 10 but we try our best in the race.”
With podiums in the opening two events of the season, BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team is currently third in the FIM Endurance World Championship for Teams.
