Honda will launch the EM1e:, an electric scooter for the moped 1 category, on August 24.
In addition, a follow-on electric scooter in the Class 2 moped category is expected to be on standby around spring 2024, and the wave of electrification is likely to gain momentum.

Silhouette like the Reed 125 was unveiled at a motorcycle business presentation a year ago.

Honda began selling a series of electric business bikes to the general public on June 1, using its proprietary Honda Mobile Power Pack/e: battery. In August, the company also launched its first electric scooter for the general public, the EM1e: giving customers a choice of four models at once.

And it is likely that an electric model in the Class 2 moped category will be launched in Japan around the spring of 2024, and the genre of this model is definitely an electric scooter. The only Hara2EV from a Japanese manufacturer has been Honda's Benry e:II, but the company may be aiming to expand its user base with a concept for the general public.

In fact, Honda announced at its motorcycle business presentation that it will roll out two commuter EVs in the personal (individual) domain by 2024-2025, and unveiled a silhouette of the scooter. One of them looks very similar to the Reed 125 and could be developed as the Reed e:.

There is another precedent, the PCX Electric, which was leased and sold in 2018, and there could be a line to leverage this platform to sell to the public. The battery is designed to fit the Honda Mobile Power Pack, so it should still work well today.

PCX ELECTRIC (2018) [HONDA] Developed based on the PCX, the Electric is a Class 2 moped EV scooter with a rated output of 0.98 kW.
It has a published range of 41 km per charge.

The PCX Electric was a compact electric power unit, newly developed at the time, with an Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) structure for the motor.

The PCX Electric is powered by two Mobile Power Packs (MPPs) under the seat. This was the first practical application of MPPs in a motorcycle.

LEAD125 [HONDA] The LEAD125 is the second most popular Honda moped scooter model after the PCX. Its practicality-oriented concept has made it a long seller. This is going electric!

The space under the seat of the READ 125 has a large capacity of 37 liters, making it an ideal space for a battery. It is also likely to provide space for a battery + luggage.

EM1e: There is a line that it is a moped type 2 version of the route!

Honda's electric Hara2 scooter could be a new model, rather than an electric version of an existing model. If new, it would likely be a development of the EM1e:, which will be newly introduced in August. In fact, the naming of the EVP1 was once floated as Honda's electric motorcycle for 2022.

Honda's definition of an EV is a model capable of over 51 km/h, so the "EVP1" could be a Class 2 moped. It is unclear if it will be released under the same name, but we expect it to be announced at the Japan Mobility Show (Tokyo Motor Show) in October. Stay tuned for further news.
