Although KYT's NF-R is eye-catching with its flashy racer-replica graphics, this helmet is actually a touring model. Although the atmosphere is racy, it has many features that make it easy to use on public roads, such as touring and city riding. The most distinctive feature is the slide-down inner visor. Slide down the button on the left side of the helmet, and the inner visor slides down.
Riding a motorcycle all day can cause eye fatigue due to the sun. One option is to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, but then you will be afraid of the dark when riding in tunnels or in the shade of trees. Recently, more and more helmets, such as KYT's NF-R, allow the rider to slide the inner visor in and out depending on the situation. In actual use, it took me a while to get used to the fact that the button slides higher up than I expected, but once I got used to it, it was nothing to worry about.
I was also impressed by the shape of the inner visor. I am a spectacle rider and am concerned about contact with the inner visor, but even when wearing large glasses, there was no contact.
In addition, there is a slit for glasses, a speaker hole for the intercom, and a removable and washable interior, all of which are features that touring riders will appreciate.
The inner visor is a sliding type, operated by a sliding button on the shield's hinge.
When the button is pushed up, the inner visor comes down vigorously.
The temple portion has a slit for eyeglass riders to easily put on eyeglasses.
Inside the cap, there is a speaker hole for the intercom, with a female hook-and-loop fastener already affixed inside for immediate speaker installation.
The interior of the cheek pads and inner comfort liner (top of the head interior) are removable and washable. Spares for the cheek pads and inner comfort liner are also available.
A chin shutter to prevent wind entrapment from the lower part of the helmet is also standard. This is effective against cold weather but also makes intercom audio clearer.
An emergency tab is also provided in case of emergency. The cheek pads can be removed by a third party, and the helmet can be removed without placing stress on the cervical vertebrae of the person in need of rescue.
The upper and lower portions of the shield are made of thicker materials to increase rigidity. Thanks to this, the center portion has been made thinner for clearer visibility. The shield can be opened in five different positions.
The chin strap is a secure D-ring type. However, the chinstrap cover is a sewn-on type.
Ventilation is provided by intakes that open and close at the chin guard and at the left and right sides of the top of the head. The outlets on the left and right sides of the back of the head are always open.
Parietal intake opening.
Outlet openings on the left and right sides of the occiput.
Summary of KYT NF-R Reviews
Recently, it is common for a full-face helmet with graphics to cost in excess of (approx.) 429 USD, and some models are close to (approx.) 644 USD. On the other hand, KYT's NF-R, with all these features for (approx.) 299 USD, can be said to be a good value for money.
As for the weight, it weighs 1563g as measured by the editorial department. It is about 120g lighter than Japanese touring helmets. Although it is not dramatically lighter than other helmets, it is light enough considering that it is an ABS-molded helmet with an inner visor mechanism.
Lastly, let's look at the size. The author's head is wide with a purely Japanese-style bee, which often does not fit helmets made in foreign countries, but KYT's NF-R gives the impression of being less uncomfortable.
