The CB1000R, which went on sale in Japan in 2018, is set to undergo a full model change in 2024! It too appears to be a 2017 CBR1000RR-based streetfighter, which will be a major change of course from the traditional café racer style.

A return to Street Fighter will likely result in a strong launch in Japan.

In Europe, there is a strong tendency to emphasize performance even on naked bikes, which differs from Japanese tastes. In particular, models with two rear suspensions, such as the CB1300 SuperFour, are rarely sold in Europe, with the CB1300S being sold for a time in 2010, and there are only a few examples.

Similarly, the street-fighter CB1000R, which debuted in Europe in 2008, was never sold in Japan. And the CB1000R (SC80 model) has been available in Japan since 2018, largely due to a complete revamp from the streetfighter to a café racer style.

However, the SC80 CB1000R, which was reborn with the neo-sports cafe concept, is reportedly underperforming in Europe as well. Incidentally, the SC80 CB1000R is out of the sales ranking in Japan, with the planned sales volume of 250 units for the 2023 model year, down by a quarter from its debut.

The SC80 CB1000R, which was reborn to be sold not only in Europe but also in Japan and other global markets, seems to have ended up going either way. In light of this, the new CB1000R has been reborn as a streetfighter that returns to its roots and is expected to be released in Japan in 2024.

It looks like it will have a wing as well.

HONDA CB1000R (2018). With the neo-classics booming, Honda has made the CB1000R cafe racer style and sold it in Japan. The design is said to undergo a minor change in 2021 and end in 2023.

The patent was filed for winglets that may be for the new CB1000R.

The Streetfighter is a model that can be defined as a supersport without a cowl. Even naked models are expected to pursue high performance. Therefore, the new CB1000R is likely to be updated with the 2017 CBR1000RR (SC77 model) as its base.

The SC77 was capable of 192 PS, which was sufficient for its specifications. It was also equipped with electronic controls that are still in use today, such as a circuit-compatible traction control system that utilizes an attitude angle sensor. The SP grade was also equipped with an electronically controlled suspension, which may be introduced in the future.

In addition, Honda has applied for a patent for a model that appears to be the new CB1000R, which is equipped with winglets. The theme of the patent is also to provide a saddle-riding vehicle (note: a motorcycle) with a wing unit suitable for vehicles without a front cowl.

Naked and winglets are the kind of equipment that street fighters in pursuit of high performance need. This would be exactly what the 2024 CB1000R would be equipped with. Other applications include a swingarm-mounted number holder, so the model is likely to strongly reflect European tastes.

The drawing is a rather sharp naked model with a parallel 4-cylinder engine and a winglet 30 patent applied for. The frame appears to be a new one, different from the CBR1000RR as it is pro-armed.

Winglets use airflow to create downforce, making it more difficult for the vehicle to wheelie. This equipment is designed to make high-power models run faster.

In the patent, the license plate holder mounts on the swingarm. This drawing shows a new idea for the rear indicator, with the 80 portions serving as the indicator and reflector. Expect to see it mounted on the new CB1000R.

BWM M1000R. One of the rivals of the new CB1000R. A streetfighter bearing the "M" name, it debuted in 2023. It is equipped with a winglet and a 210 PS engine similar to that of the M1000RR.
