Based on the equipment of the new ZX-25RR unveiled by Kawasaki in Indonesia on October 1, we would like to predict the ZX-4R, which is expected to debut in 2023.
What kind of model will the 400cc multi-liter model that will appear in 2023 really be?

The ZX-4R will likely share a common platform with the ZX-25R

Following the ZX-25R's electrifying debut in 2020 with a parallel four-cylinder engine, a new ZX-4R is expected to follow in 2023. The ZX-4R is also expected to use a parallel four-cylinder engine, and will likely attract a great deal of attention for the first 400cc multi in many years.

Although the CG predicted what exactly the ZX-4R will look like, it will share the same base as the ZX-25R and will be equipped with a silencer in the exhaust system. As if to confirm this, the 2023 ZX-25R unveiled in Indonesia is also equipped with a separate silencer, just like the CG.

This would make it difficult to distinguish the ZX-25R from the ZX-4R, but the ZX-4R seems to use a W disc brake on the front, so it can be identified there. Furthermore, the ZX-4R seems to have wider rear tires as a result of its increased power.

What we expect more than anything else is the engine power that only Kawasaki can provide. Currently, there are no voluntary horsepower regulations, which were in place during the racer replica boom, so there is no need to limit the horsepower to the upper limit of 59 PS in the 400 cc class. Furthermore, the power of the Ram Air system can be added to the engine once the ZXR400 adopts it.

This is the completely new 2020 ZX-25R parallel 4-cylinder. There are rumors that this engine was originally 400cc, so the ZX-4R may have more power output as its true displacement

The ZX-25R's parallel four-cylinder engine uses the Ram Air system. Incidentally, the ZXR400, the predecessor of the ZX-4R, did not adopt the Ram Air system, so if the 4R adopts the system, it will be the first replica model to do so.

The chassis of the ZX-25R has dimensions based on the ZX-10RR. The ZX-4R is expected to follow suit, but the brakes and tires will be strengthened to accommodate the increased power.

What equipment will be included in the latest 400cc multi?

The ZX-25R is not expected to have excessive hardware features such as an aluminum twin-tube frame and aluminum swingarms like the racer replicas of the 1980s and 1990s, but it is expected to introduce the latest suspension and electronic controls.

A hint of this is the ZX-25RR, newly unveiled in Indonesia in 2023, which uses the new SHOWA BFRC-lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion - Lite) in the rear, which is also used on the ZX-10R. The rear is fully adjustable and a preload adjustment has been added to the front, which should allow for a wider range of settings.

The 2023 ZX-25R also features a 4.3-inch color TFT display used on the Ninja 1000SX and other models. This meter can be linked to a smartphone, and vehicle information and riding logs can be checked via RIDEOLOGY THE APP.

These features can be expected to be included in the ZX-4R as well, in terms of increased productivity. In addition, the ZX-25R SE will also be equipped with a quick shifter, traction control, and other electronic controls not found on the replica models of yesteryear, as well as ABS, making it easier and safer to enjoy sport riding on the 2021 400cc multi.

The rear BFRC-lite used by RR is a high-performance suspension that improves comfort and traction performance by generating damping force with an external damping force chamber. Expect to see it adopted by ZX-4R.

The ZX-25R/RR's instrumentation features a 4.3-inch color TFT display. The display can be switched to a track-riding-specific display. It is also possible to switch to a meter display specialized for track riding. This is also expected to be used in the ZX-4R.
