Yamaha will release the 2023 model of its GEAR series of business scooters on December 9, 2022.
The GEAR series, equipped with a 4-stroke liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine and a low rear deck for convenient loading and unloading, has three models: the standard model GEAR BX50 (GEAR) at (approx.) 1740 USD, the GEAR News GEAR BX50N (NEWS GEAR) with a foot brake for newspaper delivery and a large basket at the Gear BX50S (GEAR Parking Stand), equipped with a mechanism that allows the user to hang the stand while sitting on the seat, will be available in a lineup of three models priced at (approx.) 1885 USD.
GEAR series continues to be produced independently by Yamaha Taiwan
The GEAR series, introduced in 1994, is a long-lived business-oriented moped model that has continued to be sold with model changes. From its debut until 2007, it was equipped with a two-stroke engine, and at the full model change in 2008, a four-stroke engine and injection were adopted. Both models feature a large, low rear deck designed for easy loading and unloading of luggage. The space under the seat is not a met-in and is equipped with a large 7.5-liter fuel tank. With a cruising range of 501.7 km (manufacturer's estimate) when fully loaded, these motorcycles can play a major role in delivery operations.
The News Gear is a standard Gear model with equipment specially designed for newspaper delivery, including a large front basket, a brush guard (hand guard), and a foot-pedal foot brake, making it convenient for handling in bad weather and when parked. The gear parking stand can be easily operated to deploy the parking stand for a stable stop, enhancing workability during delivery operations. For all 2023 models, the body logo has been changed to a new gray (frosted silver) color.
Yamaha currently has a partnership with Honda that began in 2016, and while the moped series is a cooperative effort, the Gear series is manufactured by Taiwan's Yamaha Machine Tool (YMT).
This is the only 50cc model in Yamaha's lineup that is manufactured independently by Yamaha, while the other two 50cc models in Yamaha's lineup are manufactured by Honda.
