What Do You Think of the Tricity 300, to be Honest | Owner’s Review

Motorcycle & Industry

From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them. This time, here's what the owners have to say about "Yamaha Tricity 300"!

This is what Tricity 300 is!

The Tricity 300 is Yamaha's Leaning Multi-Wheel (hereafter LMW) model and is equipped with the largest displacement 292cc engine among the three-wheel scooter type Tricity series.

LMW, as the name suggests, means "leaning" and "multiple" wheels.
At present, Yamaha's LMW models include the Tricity 125/155/300 and the Niken series with two front wheels.

The characteristic of the front two-wheel LMW is its overwhelming stability when turning. This is because one of the scariest things about riding a motorcycle is slipping down while cornering. Slipping on the front wheel, especially if it slips on a wet manhole or floating jarring, can easily make the motorcycle's body very unstable.

A near-miss is fine, but a front tire slip is very dangerous and frightening.

With LMW, however, the two front wheels on either side of the motorcycle prevent the motorcycle  from slipping even if one wheel rides over a wet manhole, as long as the other wheel is firmly holding the road surface.

LMW is also less prone to wobble in the face of disturbance factors such as crosswinds and uneven road surfaces.
This makes it easy to drive over long distances, and it is also suitable for two-seater motorcycles.

In addition to such touring-oriented elements of LMW, the Tricity 300 is also equipped with safety features such as traction control and ABS, making it a very well-traveled three-wheeled scooter.

Another unique feature of the Tricity 300 is that it is the first Yamaha to feature the LMW locking mechanism Standing Assist. This mechanism locks the left and right tilt of the LMW to make it stand on its own, but it may be easier to understand if you watch the video for more details.

Average owner satisfaction score is 3.63 out of 5! (Number of people rating: 25)

It is difficult to say whether this indicator can be used for judging the performance of this unique two-wheeled motorcycle, but user evaluations are generally favorable.

One of the advantages mentioned is cornering stability. It is hard to put it this way, but it can be said that it is quite high, so much so that ordinary riders can feel it. Also, because of its displacement, it is easy to ride at high speeds. Although the motorcycle weighs a lot, it is stable at high speeds and can withstand crosswinds. They may be more compatible on highways than on ordinary roads.

On the other hand, a disadvantage is the footing. However, this is solved by the standing function. Owners are also dissatisfied with the lack of customizable parts.

The Tricity 300 may be the first motorcycle that has been able to bring out the best of being a three-wheeler. Until now, three-wheeled motorcycles have been considered trikes, which require a different riding style than motorcycles. But the Tricity is a motorcycle. And it is also a sports scooter that can plunge into curves with considerable confidence.

A quick summary of the Tricity 300

Advantage

- More satisfying than the 125cc Tricity
- Parking brake is convenient
- Stable as a liter motorcycle on the highway
- Quiet and speedy engine

Disadvantage

- Big and heavy
- Not easy to get a good footing
- Space under the seat is drastically reduced when lowered seats are installed

Tricity 300 Owner's Voice

Here are some of the most impressive voices among the many reviews.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models I wanted a motorcycle that is not too fast.
For commuting. Stability of the front end.
Pros/Satisfactory points The stability at high speeds is comparable to that of a liter bike. The front end is especially stable thanks to the two wheels. When I ride through city streets, the front left wheel sometimes rubs against the curb, which makes me a little nervous. The appearance is a strike for me. The other scooters I thought were cool were the XMAX and the Forza 750, which were released in Euro this spring.
Cons/Dissatisfactions It is a little heavy for the displacement. It can't be helped though, since there are many parts. I wish they had made a 400 or 500.
I wish the windshield had a little more protection effect. It's not so bad as it is.
Advice for prospective buyers It is so large that cars passing it on the highway sometimes observe it with great interest. It is hard to tell when driving in the city, but at high speeds, the XMAX clearly has a more relaxed driving feel than the XMAX.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models As a motorcycle that can be used for commuting (i.e., can be ridden with normal shoes for short distances) and for touring.
Pros/Satisfactory points A solid and secure feeling even on surfaces where the front wheels might drift or in crosswinds.
Luggage space for both helmets and business bags.
Nimble handling and fun cornering, despite its size.
Quiet and easy to get up to speed with the engine.
A screen that lets you not feel the wind from the front.
Cons/Dissatisfactions Big and heavy. It is too wide and not comfortable to stand on.
The screen is too high and blocks the line of sight.
Using the standing assist makes it easier to maneuver, but it is noisy.
With the lowered seats, a helmet and a business bag cannot be stored in the luggage space at the same time.
It is difficult to remove the exterior, just to access the battery and fuses.
Advice for prospective buyers If you can tolerate the fact that it is big and heavy, it is a good foot bike.
There are many things you can't tell about a motorcycle just by test-riding it, such as its size and handling, so we recommend renting one and putting it in your own motorcycle yard first.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models I bought it because of the urge to ride a new motorcycle with three wheels, and because I wanted it to be easy and safe. I compared all of the scooters. The purpose is touring.
Pros/Satisfactory points Powerful in appearance and has the same presence as a large motorcycle. High speed is very easy and less fatigue. It can carry luggage, and its maneuverability is unique and interesting. It is fast in spite of its weight. It is safe even on rainy days. It is very easy to handle with the standing assist. It is the best for touring.
Cons/Dissatisfactions It is heavy and has a foot. It would be great if only the footing could be eliminated.
It is necessary to have a lowered seat or uncoiler. If it gets wobbly, it will stumble due to the weight and foot grounding. I also need to train my muscles, maybe (lol)
Advice for prospective buyers The weight of the motorcycle is so heavy that if you underestimate it, it will stumble.
Do not rely too much on the standing assist and ride carefully. If you take measures to improve the footing, such as lowering the seat, you will have no complaints.
If you can ride it well, it will stand out and be very satisfying!

Check out Tricity 300's competitors

The Tricity 300, with its very unique LMW feature, is very limited when it comes to rivals.
If you have to choose from the LMW series, it would be the Tricity 125/155, which is more compact and suitable for city riding, and if you want to enjoy a sportier ride with LMW characteristics, the larger models Niken/GT would be your choice.
