Wire lubrication is a hassle, isn't it? No, in fact, I know that it is important maintenance. If you are not interested in maintenance, the clutch will creak, the throttle will be heavy, and in the worst case, the throttle will not return. In the worst-case scenario, the moment you think something is wrong with the bike, rainwater gets into the choke wire (or choke wire you haven't used in a while) and the wire is rusted and falling apart.
I can manage without tools.
Wire lubrication is very important maintenance to prevent such problems. It is not so difficult to do, and you can find the basics in any maintenance manual, so just do it regularly!
But when you try to do it, the wire oil doesn't go in properly, and it even sprays out! If you get oil all over your face, you have no motivation to do it. There is a tool called a wire injector that solves this troublesome process, but what should you do if you don't have one?
In the MOTO HACK introduced this time, I will introduce a method that makes it quite easy to clean up Aru Faron's troublesome wire lubrication. The tool that appears is a narrow oiler, but this is a simple tool that has a structure like a mustard container and injects oil into it. In particular, the narrow space oiler has a thin metal tip. Pour the oil little by little with this. That's what it means.
And for those of you who don't have an oiler, Alfallon also introduces a simple alternative method that can be started with zero tools. This kind of oil lubrication is a technique from the old days when tools and supplies were not readily available, but it is a good starting point for beginners who want to start maintenance. This is a good starting point for beginners who want to start maintenance.
Clutch wire lubrication (hand-cut version)
What is a hand-cut version?
It's a tricky job, just soften the old grease that's getting hard with engine oil.
Remove the wire from the lever and pour in engine oil with a narrow oiler.
That's all.
No shortcuts, just correct procedure!
I'll also introduce the recommended procedure, which is not a cut-and-dry, just a procedure.
I didn't do it this time, so it will be handwritten.
What to prepare
- Parts Cleaner
- Oil of your choice (chain lube, wire grease, engine oil, etc.)
※Hard grease is not suitable for this method.
- Scissors
- Rubber bands
- Plastic bag
1. First, cut off the bottom edge of the plastic bag just enough to allow the wire tycoon to pass through.
2. Put the wire through the hole in the vinyl and wrap it tightly around the metal part with a rubber band.
3. Insert the busher and squeeze the wire. Because dirt is discharged from the other side of the wire. If you are concerned about it, protect it with a rag or something.
4. Put your favorite oil in the busher and squeeze the wire. When the oil comes out from the other side of the wire, it's done.
We don't need wire injectors.
From the Editors.
There are different types of oilers. In this case, the oiler to be used is a narrow oiler with a narrow mouth made of resin, as shown below. It is also important to use smooth engine oil, not highly viscous grease.
Also, here is a wire injector recommended by the editorial department. While general wire injectors use spray pressure to pour in oil, this model has a unique mechanism that applies finger pressure to the oil once stored and pushes it in. It's an excellent way to get oil flowing at an astonishingly high efficiency!
Thank you for your valuable ideas, "Alfallon" who introduced the "Clutch wire lubrication (hand-cut version)".
