Honda CBR250RR Review

From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them.
In this issue, I bring you the real owner's voice about Honda's CBR250RR!

To be honest, CBR250RR is this kind of motrocycle!

The 250cc full-cowl boom suddenly began with the introduction of Kawasaki's Ninja 250R in 2008.
In 2011, Honda introduced the CBR250R with a single-cylinder engine, and in 2012, Kawasaki changed the model to a sportier image and the Ninja 250 name. Yamaha followed suit in 2014 with the YZF-R25.

The unexpectedly strong popularity of this 250cc full-cowl model was so great that a new JP250 class was established in the All Japan Road Race. In 2017, Honda introduced the CBR250RR as a "dominant force" to beat the Ninja 250 and the YZF-R25, encouraged by the boom in motorcycles in the ASEAN region.

As the "RR" name suggests, the machine was designed with circuit-range riding in mind, just like its big brothers, the CBR600RR and CBR1000RR.
The features of this machine are as follows:
(1) a more forward-leaning position that prioritizes control over comfort,
(2) a highly rigid chassis including an inverted fork that enables high-speed riding,
(3) high-performance radial tires, and so on.

The engine also features a cooled pump layout derived from MotoGP machines, downdraft intake, and for the first time in the 250cc class, an electronically controlled throttle.

Its overwhelming sporting performance, already five years after its introduction, still maintains its superiority and has not been surpassed by rival models.

How do Webike users feel about the CBR250RR?

Average price of new model: approx. 5970 USD
Average used model price: approx. 5500 USD

Average Owner Satisfaction Rating: 3.87 out of 5 (726 persons evaluated)

It should be noted that the motorcycle scored more than 4 points in the four categories of looks, driving, fuel economy and handling. Although its loadability is below the standard for a supersport, its balance is excellent.

The opinions of Webike users are also favorable for the styling, which is often linked to the purchase of the motorcycle. The performance of the motorcycle is also highly evaluated, especially its cornering performance. It seems that Honda's best performance has reached the users and they are enjoying it on ordinary roads.

The main drawbacks are vibration due to the two-cylinder design and the SS's forward-leaning posture, which makes long tours difficult. If it is used on ordinary roads, some countermeasure is necessary. Some say that the matte color makes it slippery on knee grips. It can be said that this is dissatisfaction with super sports, but it is necessary to take measures to make it comfortable by using aftermarket parts.

CBR250RR, Quick Summary

Advantage

Love the style at first sight, just so cool!
Fun cornering on the pass.
Customization is fun with a wide variety of aftermarket parts.
Compatible with regular fuel

Disadvantage

Engine braking too much in some driving modes.
Sport mode+, but I want more power.
Footpeg position is too forward and too low from the perspective of circuit driving

CBR250RR Owner's Voice

Here are some of the most impressive voices among the many reviews.

Sin

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Purchased because he could no longer ride his large motorcycle due to family circumstances.
The design was the coolest among the large ones.
Transferred from S1000RR (2012)
Advantages/Satisfactory points  Cool design!
It is light, fun to corner, and easy to maneuver.
He thinks it's a less tiring riding position for touring (not sure if this is helpful since I've only ridden 1000cc SS).
He appreciates fuel efficiency and regular fuel.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points It can be a strong point, but is the position tourer-like?
Power is not as good as it used to be due to its large size.
The surface treatment of the wheels, the cowl has bumps and the quality of the paint is not good enough.
Advice for prospective buyers Power is 250 and don't expect too much.
The motorcycle is easy enough for beginners to ride.
Don't expect paint or surface treatment (quality is not as good as Yamaha, etc.).

Mr. Ma-kun

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Purchased for the thrill of it.
The purpose is to ride on the mountain pass.
Comparison with Ninja ZX-25R
Advantages/Satisfactory points Cornering is stable and secure.
I think it looks good and is very combative.
The fuel economy is good.
He drives 80km on the highway and gets about 35km/L. About 27km/L on a mountain pass.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points When cruising at 80km/h~100km/h, the steering wheel vibrates strongly and my palms feel numb from the vibration when riding for long periods of time.
Perhaps because it is a new motorcycle, it is difficult to shift from 4th to 6th gear, and the motorcycle returns to the lower gear unless it is shifted firmly.
If the gear change is reversed, the motorcycle will be in the reverse gear, so I think it will go into 6th gear firmly.
However, to reverse the change, it is necessary to cut the change rod part of the under cowl.
Advice for prospective buyers It is recommended for those who are mainly interested in attacking mountain passes rather than touring.
If you are touring at a slower pace, it may be tough due to its load capacity and riding position.

Kecch222

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Recommended by the store owner.
Advantages/Satisfactory points Cool appearance
Fast enough
Electronic throttle
Surprisingly large storage space
LED lights
Lightweight and easy to maneuver
Good foot grounding
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points He can't seem to remove the cowl myself because it looks like a hassle.
The rubber on the shift pedal is loose.
When I turn the gearshift, it often goes out of gear.
I don't like the sound of the exhaust when idling.
Advice for prospective buyers It is an expensive 250, but it is a suitably satisfying motorcycle.
It has high performance, and the fact that it is assembled in Japan is also a high point.

Amagiri

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models He looked around at a lot of different motorcycles because it was his first motorcycle, but he fell in love with the looks of it and bought it new.
He rides it almost every day for commuting and touring.
(He rides about 1,800 km a month.)
Advantages/Satisfactory points Very sharp design compared to sport motorcycles of the same displacement.
Three riding modes can be selected and changed depending on the situation.
A comfortable ride with an inverted fork and radial tires as standard.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory points The vehicle leans slightly forward, but not so much that it is tiring, as it is not an extreme forward lean.
The engine brake works too much depending on the driving mode.
The price is high.
Advice for prospective buyers He knows of the hesitation because the purchase price is by far the most expensive of the 250cc models.
Once that problem is solved, he is sure of the satisfaction.

Check out CBR250RR's competitors

Simply speaking of 250cc full cowls, the competitors are Yamaha's YZF-R25, Kawasaki's Ninja 250, and ZX-25R.

However, due to its split design philosophy, the ZX-25R is probably its rival when it comes to sportiness on the circuit range. On the other hand, in the touring scene, the YZF-R25 and Ninja 250 are likely candidates.

Yet, the strong forward lean position can be tiring, and a chassis that is designed to work just fine on a race circuit may be a bit over-specified and difficult to handle on public roads.

In any case, the main point will be how the CBR250RR's extreme sporting performance is perceived.
