The Honda 4 MINI category is not just an introductory category for motorcycles, but a major feature of the Honda 4 MINI category is that there are many veteran users who have become completely absorbed in the depths of the category. Among the various special parts that exist, the intake and exhaust system customization is one of the first parts to be enjoyed.
In particular, the old 4 MINI models from the carburetor era offer a different feeling from the OEM one.
Big carburetor with power filter
The base vehicle for the customization is a 6V-era DAX Sport.
The derivative model was created in response to requests from overseas for a DAX that would allow children and smaller riders to enjoy off-road driving. A K&N round straight type air filter was chosen for this model.
Before installing the filter, apply the red oil for filtration by yourself. Be sure to apply the oil so that it does not become uneven.
Big carburetor carburetor that can be used with OEM carburetor
Surprisingly few big carburetors on the market for horizontal tuning engines are made by Keihin PB.
We thought it would be difficult to find a manifold, but after trying various manifolds, we finally settled on a variable billet manifold made by Shift-Up. The Keihin PC carburetor manifold could be used. Since the customization was designed for off-road use, a pre-charged filter cover was installed to cover the air element. Although not well known, this cover suddenly became fashionable when installed. K&N products are well suited for custom vehicles of this age.
Up Position Exhaust System is also a normal design
The exhaust system is a slightly thicker exhaust pipe with a normal-looking design, handled by MINIMOTO, a company known for its 4 Mini customization. This exhaust system is recommended for users who want to customize their vehicle without compromising the OEM image. The specification is compatible with engines that have been bored up. The sound is almost the same level as the OEM exhaust system. The 88cc engine definitely improves acceleration from the low-speed range.
Custom extension of the normal image
Although this is customization aimed at off-road specifications, it is used almost exclusively for asphalt, and a general-purpose stone guard made by MINIMOTO was installed as a countermeasure against stepping and spring stones.
This part is commonly known as "Mochi Yaki Net". The image of the 60's and 70's is that of a scrambler, right?
POINT
Point 1 - Filter paper-type air filters must be coated with special filter oil for dust adsorption before use.
Point 2 - When installing a carbureted carburetor for another model, it is important to find a manifold.
Point 3 - There are so many custom parts for the 4-MINI that you can choose from a star-studded list, so use the parts of your choice to create the custom machine of your choice!
It is a common belief that the first step in building a custom machine is to start with the exterior. In my case, however, I tend to start by modifying the engine, regardless of the model. Regardless of whether it is a 4-stroke or 2-stroke engine, if it is a miniature engine, I am the first person to want to open the engine. I would be very disappointed if I found that the engine had reached the end of its life after it was finished. In the case of this DAX Sport, we first disassembled the entire body and polished each part, and then cleaned and overhauled the engine while unloading it. The displacement was bored up to the standard 88cc specification.
Let's polish the body of the motorcycle and finish it up to off-spec specifications.
The front and rear steel rims were replaced with silver-anodized aluminum rims for a more normal appearance. The rim width was increased to 3.5 inches, and off-road pattern tires were chosen to give the vehicle a slightly macho, serious off-road look. With these specification changes, the vehicle is now moving forward to off-road specifications with a high degree of self-satisfaction.
Replaced with Honda genuine parts grips for the Z50R, the throttle pipe requires modification for even more atmosphere. A K&N round straight filter and my favorite pre-charge filter cover of the same brand were installed on the Tyke Hin PB18 for more power. The off-road vehicle, or rather, the atmosphere of an off-road vehicle, is it not?
Incidentally, the reason why the PB18 made by Tyke Hin was chosen was that we wanted a carburetor that matched the 88cc displacement without compromising the stock atmosphere. The float chamber of this carburetor has a fuel cock built-in, so it is also the best carburetor for the OEM-type DAX.
The manifold we chose to mount that PB18 carburetor was a variable type made by Shift-Up.
We looked for a stock manifold that could mount the PB18, and the variable mount type made by Shift-Up was the best choice! In order to keep the float chamber and crankcase as far apart as possible during installation, and also to create a long manifold that would prevent engine heat transfer and increase low-speed torque, a Bakelite adapter was DIY fabricated and installed between the manifold and the cylinder head. The port diameter could also be balanced at the passage of this Bakelite adapter. After all, when the old exhaust system is changed, the 88cc engine runs very differently!
