Honda Rebel 1100 Review

From the Webike Community's My Bike, "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them.
In this issue, we bring you the real owner's voice about the Rebel 1100!

This is what the Rebel 1100 is all about!

The Rebel 1100 is the big brother of the popular Rebel 250 and can be called the "King Rebel". Although its 1082 cc displacement may seem overwhelming, the motorcycle's styling makes it look as if it has good footing, and its slim body makes it surprisingly easy to ride, despite its powerful appearance.

Interestingly, the engine is based on the CRF1100L Africa Twin adventure model. The Africa Twin's engine is characterized by its thumping beat, and the Rebel 1100's engine further accentuates this beat, creating a motorcycle with an enjoyable engine feel that makes the rider feel as if they are kicking the earth.

Like the Africa Twin, it is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission version or a DCT version with automatic shifting. The DCT version can be driven with a large motorcycle AT license.

The Rebel 1100 is also a very cost-effective motorcycle in terms of price. The current market price for motorcycles with a displacement of over 1,000 cc is close to 11,217 USD across the board, but the Rebel 1100 is priced at 8,226 USD and even the DCT model is priced at a reasonable 9,048 USD.

The Rebel 1100 is easy to handle, has a good foot grounding, and is well balanced in terms of price, making it a good choice as a first large motorcycle.

Average owner satisfaction score is 3.99 out of 5! (Rated by: 124 users)

Notably, the driving, looks, and handling are of a high standard, with more than 4 points.
It is easy to understand that "looks" are highly rated by users since it is a cruiser, but surprisingly, "driving" is also highly rated.

In addition, for a cruiser that gives the impression of being heavy, the fact that the "handling" score exceeds 4 points is a point that should not be overlooked by riders who want to ride a cruiser but do not have a motorcycle they can ride.

Let's see what Webike users have to say.

After all, its good footing seems to be a notable feature. The weight of the motorcycle is comparable to that of a standard large motorcycle, so it is not a chore to pull it out of the motorcycle, which is highly appreciated. Also, the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) gives the driver a feeling more similar to that of a manual transmission (MT) than an automatic transmission (AT), and even those accustomed to manual transmissions feel no sense of discomfort.

On the other hand, negative comments include poor maintainability and the need for a center stand. Some also said that the front brakes are single and the rear brakes do not work as well as expected. It would be nice to see improvements in these areas through minor changes.

As for equipment, heated grips and ETC2.0 are standard. In addition, since there is a 3L space under the seat and a USB Type-C (3A) connector, a Lightning connector and a stand for a smartphone are available to further improve comfort. Some say that there are not enough custom parts for the Rebel 1100, but the popularity of the Rebel 1100 has led to the release of a growing number of new products. It is recommended that riders choose a screen, top case, etc. themselves to complete a Rebel 1100 that suits them best.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Very good footing. Good looking. Can handle both leisurely rides and some sport rides.
Equipped with DCT, ETC2.0, USB Type C, Auto-Cruise, heated grips, and electronic controls, all at a reasonable price!
Pros/Satisfactory points The dash power on ordinary roads is pleasant, and to some extent it can also handle sports rides, and it is easy to ride, not unlike a cruiser, and it is fun just to drive along nonchalantly.
This is a great motorcycle that established the Rebel genre.
Cons/Dissatisfactions With my body type, the main seat needs to be replaced with an optional back seat to limit my seating position, which makes my buttocks sore and prevents me from sitting in the proper position for the gradient of the corners.
I would like more tank capacity. The handlebar grips are short and have been replaced with bar-end mirrors, so there is a bit of a lack of flexibility.
Advice for prospective buyers If you can test drive the motorcycle, it would be better to buy it only after you are satisfied with it.
The DCT is convenient and easy to use, but I think it is more stable when making U-turns, for example, with the rear brake dragging, since there is no half-clutch.In particular, those who are new to large vehicles may want to carefully consider whether the unique position and DCT gearshift are suitable for them.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models I was wondering whether to buy a Harley or a big domestic American motorcycle, and I was a bit different after test-riding the Harley, and I saw information about the Rebel 1100 and thought I was just going to look at a brochure, but I ended up signing a contract.
Pros/Satisfactory points The Rebel 1100 is easy to ride, even for short distances. You don't need to be ready to ride it with a lot of energy.
The footing is great, cruise control, heated grips, and ETC are standard, the DCT is easy to use, and the paddle shifters keep the motorcycle fun. It's not an automatic, but more like a regular manual.
Cons/Dissatisfactions The loading problem is the same as with other models, but there are still too many custom and optional products on the market, so it is necessary to make do by modifying general-purpose products or items from other motorcycles.
Fuel economy is normal, but tank capacity is low at 13 liters. You have to be aware of refueling when you go over 200 km.
Advice for prospective buyers Recommended for those who like long-distance touring but are concerned about the weight of the body, those who are worried about their footing, those who say they can no longer handle a forward-leaning motorcycle, and those who want to enjoy a large motorcycle at low cost.

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative models Reason for purchase: Because I was satisfied with the equipment, appearance, and price.
Applications: Touring
Comparison models: CB1300SB, CB1000R, Z900RS
Pros/Satisfactory points I'm 170cm tall, but I'm not worried about my footing at all (I can back up while straddling).
Automatic gear shifting with DCT
Strong acceleration with an engine based on the Africa Twin
Riding mode selectable
Cruise control is also standard (less tiring for the right hand on highways and bypasses)
Cons/Dissatisfactions Fuel consumption is about 20km/L, but the tank capacity is 13L, so you need to worry about refueling after 200km.
If you are concerned about wind protection, it would be better to install an optional screen cowl.
There is a 3L storage space under the seat, but it cannot hold so much luggage as it contains ETC unit, tools, drive recorder, wiring, etc. If you are concerned about load capacity, saddle bags or a rear carrier are necessary.
Advice for prospective buyers Many people want to switch to a bigger motorcycle, but are concerned about the suspension and weight. (I was the same way.)
This motorcycle doesn't have many of those concerns.
It depends on your preference of design and number of cylinders, but I think it would be one of the candidates.
Even so, it is a 1100cc motorcycle, so you need to be careful when driving and handling it until you get used to it, but if you are used to riding 400cc class motorcycles, you should be able to handle it without much difficulty.

Check out Rebel 1100's competitors

Cruiser/American motorcycles have been on the wane in recent years, but the reemergence of this type of motorcycle is expected, as they are characterized by their good footing.

The rivals of the Rebel 1100 are, of course, the company's Rebel 250 and Rebel 500, which are cruiser/American motorcycles of the same lineage, but among Japanese manufacturers, Kawasaki's Vulcan S and Harley-Davidson's Sportster can also be considered rivals.
