Remake Over 25 Years of Vintage Bike: GPZ900R Custom

 6 min read

TG-RUN's GPZ900R

This 1994 Kawasaki GPZ900R Custom has already been ridden for over 25 years and more than 100,000km.The engine was renewed, the ZX-11 crank was replaced with a new one, and the connecting rods were also changed to CP-Carrillo's. The pistons and cylinder head still work fine. After the engine was removed, the owner checked the conditions of frame and chassis. At the same time, all consumable parts were replaced, and brakes and suspension were completely overhauled. The exterior has been repainted.

It is important to ensure safety and comfort when restoring an old motorcycle. The settings of the carburetor and chassis are recorded and kept in a database so that they can be viewed at any time. They will serve as a benchmark when you are unsure about something. Then, understanding how the owner uses the bike is also important. It leads to feedbacks on how it runs and to a goal of the work that suits the owner (touch, power output, handling). In addition to these settings, parts are important things. If your bike is to be restarted after being left unattended for a long time, it must first be recovered. It need to inspect seals, rubbers, pipes, bearings, and sometimes harnesses and wires. In some cases, consumable parts such as harnesses and wires must be replaced.

Handle

The handlebar has been converted to a bar type, and the stem is made by K-Factory. Both side master cylinders are Brembo radials. The exterior is lightened using a Beater aluminum tank and A-TECH carbon.

Bodyworks

The seat is Suprem's and builds a good position together with the handle and footpegs. It is said to be comfortable for pillion and long-distance touring.

Engine

The engine consists of Φ79mm JE pistons with a ZX-11 crankshaft of 58mm stroke. Its Displacement is 1136cc. This bike with FCR Φ41mm carburetor and K-Factory Diablo Titanium EX for over 165ps rear-axle measured. The engine is also flexible and has high fuel efficiency of 18km/L.

Based on the GPZ900R A8, the crank and connecting rods were changed after 25 years.

Intake & Exhaust

Swingarm with upper side sway bar is an one-off item. Brembo 2-piston brake caliper is used. The titanium full exhaust is made by K-Factory.

Chassis

Front forks are internally tuned with Ohlins Φ43mm. Brakes are Brembo monobloc 4-piston caliper + Brembo 6mm thick disc with one-off inner. 64 titanium bolts made by BETA Titanium are also scattered throughout.

The front and rear wheels, which are 3.50-17/5.50-17 inches (stock size: 3.00-17/3.50-18), are MARCHESINI forged magnesium M10R wheels with Carbon Protec treatment. The tires are Bridgestone S22 recommended by the TG-RUN for street use. The rear shocks are Ohlins.
