GALE SPEED Thumb Brake Master Cylinder: Making the thumb brake even easier to use!
GALE SPEED Thumb Brake Master Cylinder
A thumb brake lets you operate the rear brake with a master cylinder mounted on the left side of the handlebar and a lever that can be pressed with the left thumb. Originally intended to solve the problem of racers who were injured and could not use the brake with their feet, the thumb brake is now recognized as an additional functional part that can be used to regain traction, stabilize posture, and restore grip when it is difficult to operate the foot brake, such as when leaning deeply to the right.
A thumb brake with a machined body was already available from GALE SPEED, and now they have added an Adjustable Short Lever version that allows the length of the lever to be adjusted by sliding the end. Also added as an option is a mount for a standard 22.2mm diameter handlebar. This allows for easier adjustment and a wider range of mounting styles.
The recently released Adjustable Short Lever version has a sliding mechanism at the end of the lever that allows the lever length to be adjusted between 80 and 100mm. It also retains the wide finger contact surface used in the Standard Lever version.
Like the front master cylinder, an adjustable knob is also provided, allowing the user to freely adjust the point of effect.
A φ22.2 Handlebar Clamp has been added as an option. The upper mount clamps to the handlebar and the lower holds the master cylinder. The master cylinder position can be adjusted up and down to three different positions, and the wide holes at the bottom also allow it to be moved left to right (see above photo). The mounting pitch of the Thumb Brake Master Cylinder is 35mm and the lines connect to the regular rear master cylinder so that the two can be used together.
