The motorsport competes for the harmony between the rider and machine

The motorsport is a sport that competes using tools called machines. Therefore, the speed and strength of the race will be determined by the performance of the machine and the ability of the rider.

However, the higher the level of the race, the less such a simple scheme does not fit. By harmonizing the characteristics of the rider with the characteristics of the machine, it can complement the weaknesses against the rivals and make use of strengths as an advantage. Riders and machines are not separate elements, but harmonizing them and competing for man-machine abilities is the original motorsport.

The close battles that show the evolution of MotoGP in recent years

In the recent MotoGP, the close battles like the 250cc class used to be developed. It is certain that both the machine and the rider are at a high level, but it is also true that the lap time gap will be smaller if machines will be better and better. In other words, there is no technical difference between all manufacturers.

In addition to the ECU and its software, the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) has also been standardized to the one made by Magneti Marelli since 2019. Since 2016, the tires have been made by MICHELIN and is not exclusive for works as before, and the ability to choose tires equally has also contributed to the reduction in such a performance gap.

Also, the number of engines that can be used during the season is limited, and changing the engine specifications are prohibited by regulations. Aerodynamic parts, such as generalized winglets, can be changed only once during the season. In the brake system, brake disc diameters are well defined in the regulation.

These regulations also enhance the appeal of the motorsport.

Is stricter regulation happy for everyone involved?

In the past, works machines had the image of being a corporate secret aggregate. Therefore, there was a tendency to hide it as a virtue.

In the off-season, the details of each manufacturer's MotoGP machines and interviews with the engineers have made prosperity in the motorsport magazine. Even just reading the answer of the engineers in the magazine, they speak comfortably.

The specifications of the machine are specified in detail in regulations, and the common electronic control is checked on the PC (certainly, it is not leaked to other teams), so the atmosphere of works is more open than before.

Riders' comments in race releases from the team can also point out their problems. I realized that MotoGP is evolving in a good way as professional motorsport. So, I'm looking forward to the MotoGP, which will start soon this year.
