Super Cub, which was sold for the first time in August, 1958 supported the period of high economic growth of Japan while the postwar restoration after World WarII, so we can call Super Cub our national motorcycle.

Super Cub is clutchless shifting so anybody could handle it easily. All operation buttons are located on the right handle grip side to make it possible to ride while carrying stuff with your left hand. It has a chain case to prevent oil residue and, its underbone frame makes it easy to ride on it when wearing a skirt. Super Cub greatly played a major role in the economic growth by being mass transportation back those days when the traffic conditions were quite bad and automobiles were way too expensive for most of the people.

Soichiro Honda, the founder of HONDA was directly involved in the development of Super Cub. Super Cub might have been something the most needed for Japan for a while for its prosperity.

Now, Super Cub is no longer main transportation in Japan due to the economical growth. However, Super Cub is still seen everywhere in Japan delivering newspaper or noodles. Not just in Japan, all over the world.

THAT Super Cub underwent a full model change to be 110cc. Obviously it has emission and noise control to survive another 50 years to be "Super Cub". The foundation is always the same. The time has passed. That is all.

At a glance, it is nothing but Cub. That is the most important thing. It has a fuel injection and allow both starting by a starter motor and starting by a kick arm. It started the engine with a slight kick down on a kick arm. It was too easy. There is almost no exhaust noise, just like "tu tu tu tu...". Possibly this is for newspaper delivery in the early morning. People would not complain the slight noise it makes.

Press down the seesaw pedal without clutch. It shifts to a lower gear and it will not move forward without opening throttle. This is what we call a centrifugal clutch.

When you start it, you will feel more power than you expected as you accelerate it. Though it is increased only from 90cc to 110cc, it provides enough speed to ride along with others on regular roads. Super Cub has a mission so is more efficient than scooters. There was a time when Thai made Super Cub 100 was sold as a limited import model, but this 110cc is by far the fastest Super Cub ever in its own history.

It is nonsensical to debate about handling when it comes to Super Cub, but a bottom link front suspension is change to a telescopic front fork and swingarm is now changed from pressed plate to aluminum square pipe. It will keep a sharp and swift ride even at high speed.

While the price of Super Cub 90 Custom is 216,300 JPY, this new 110 is 249,900 JPY. Aside from this wonderfully affordable price, its fuel efficiency remains the same as the conventional Super Cubs and it provides the incomparable toughness. This is what we call "the best Super Cub" ever.

Speaking of which, the number of fashionable Cub riders got drastically increased due to Little Cub which came to the world in 1997.

Young man, hybrid cars mean nothing. Go with super eco cars.

1It is adopted with a 110 cc next-generation engine which is loaded with PGM-FI (ProGraMmed Fuel Injection) System. It got boosted up with the clean engine combustion, but the most important thing is that it can be started more quickly due to the injection system even after left out for a long time. 2 stage clutch system makes it smooth to change gears by having to clutches, one for acceleration and the other one for changing gears. This way it reduces the shift shocks and abnormal noises.

It is has a 4 speed transmission with a see-saw pedal and it rotates only when stopped. It goes into neutral with a pedal pressed down one more time at 4-speed. The fuel efficiency the catalogue shows is ordinal 90 is 60km/L, and new 110 is 63.5km/L. For your information, it measures 29.6km/L when I rode around in Tokyo at a relatively height speed.
2The bottom link type fork is changed to a telescopic fork, and the stability of the riding is drastically improved. The drum brake is basically the same, but it is much more effective than before since it picked up speed.
3The fuel indicator which used to be located under the seat is now on the meter. The only handle switch on the right is a starter button. The switch for blinkers is now located on the left hand side and has a push button to cancel it. The turn signal relay with a beeper remains the same.
4To improve the conspicuity, the head light is now φ130 multi reflector, and tail lamp and blinkers are also enlarged. The horn is built in around where HONDA's logo is located.
5The material of the chain case is changed from iron to resin. It will reduce the chattering noise caused when the chain is stretched out. When the chain is stretched out, it will let you know with the sound the chain makes by touching the rib inside of the case.
