Here are some of the maintenance methods we’ve received from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK Maintenance" campaign that we’d like to refer to. Maybe you have an idea you'd like to try!

In this issue, I'm going to introduce the maintenance HACK from Webi-man who rides ZRX1100.

1. Lift the rear with the maintenance stand.

2. I'm also going to clean the front sprocket area, so I'll remove the sprocket cover.

3. Clean the chain with a chain cleaner, chain brush, and rag. Clean the front sprocket area with patience, as there is a stubborn mixture of grit and oil around the front sprocket. Wipe the rear sprocket clean with a rag.

4. Once the chain is clean, oil it up.
4-1: First, lubricate the inner side of the chain between the inner and outer plates at a rate of about one drop per frame.

4-2: Then lubricate the outer side of the chain in the same way as the inner side.
4-3: Finally, lubricate the inner plate and the rollers so that the oil enters between the inner plate and the rollers.

5. Turn the wheel and give the chain a few turns to allow the oil to blend in.

6. Wipe off any excess oil with a rag.

7. Remove the maintenance stand and you're done.

  • As for cleaning, I don't think anyone would do it while turning the chain with the engine operating, but be careful not to get your hand caught in the sprocket, even if you do it by hand, as it could be quite painful. I learned from a senior motorcycle rider when I was young to rotate the sprocket to the right (backward), and I still do it this way.
  • For lubrication, I think it's easier to understand one rotation if you start at the joint. You can also lubricate directly from the chain oil container, but the container is hard and your hands get tired, so it's easier to transfer the oil to a small oil jug and lubricate it. Some people use a brush to do this.

Advice

I used to use a harder spray type chain lube, but it was hard to clean the lube that splattered on the body and got stuck to the chain, so I switched to the chain oil I'm using now. After the change, it is now easier to clean, but if you apply too much oil to the soft material, it will splash around a lot and it will be a mess. It seems that you need to shorten the lubrication cycle in comparison to the harder ones. I use 500 kg as a guide. After changing to this one, I feel that the handling of the car has become lighter. The service manual also says to apply engine oil, so this may be closer to the manufacturer's specification.
