KAWASAKI ZRX1100 OEM Diversion HACK
Here's a fascinating motorcycle hack from a Webi-guy who rides the ZRX1100, from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK" campaign! Webi-guy will introduce the OEM diversion technique of ZRX1100 that he understands well because he is the owner!
Webi-guy's brief self-introduction
- Motorcycle introduction
For the past year or so, I've been doing some maintenance and painting, including replacing bearings and such. I'm very happy that the movements in various places have improved. Currently, I'm preparing for the refreshment work of the electrical system.
- How do I usually enjoy my motorcycle life?
On my days off, I do maintenance and sometimes do touring.
For motorcycle tinkering, most of the STD maintenance is being done to restore function and I'm thinking of it as a mature look.
HACK's brief description
This is about the replacement of the front brake caliper of ZRX1100. Since I felt that the OEM TOKICO 6POT caliper was poorly maintained and not working as well as it should, I've tried to overhaul it. The fact that it didn't improve the efficacy of the product made me decide to replace it. I can recommend this HACK because it's not particularly difficult and you can feel the effects.
In the ZRX1100 and ZRX1200R, this is a story that some people have done quite a bit, but I transplanted the OEM Suzuki GSF1200 and GSX-R NISSIN 4POT.
Parts, tools, and other things needed for this HACK
I compared it with the BREMBO 40mm pitch caliper, but I was reluctant to put the caliper support in between, so I chose the NISSIN 4POT which can be attached with bolt-on. First of all, I can get a new caliper, but I utilized my used caliper, which was on my GSX-R, due to budget constraints. *It seems that even a new product made by NISSIN is cool.
Parts name: NISSIN 4POT Caliper GSX-R Type
Parts number: 59100-40C01-RL
Required quantity: 1 Set
Also, the OEM caliper has a banjo bolt pitch of 1.25 while the NISSIN has 1.0, so the banjo bolts will need to be replaced.
I had replaced the brake hoses with SWAGE LINE earlier, so I used a caliper adapter with a direct connection to the SWAGE LINE.
Parts name: SWAGE LINE caliper adapter with crush washer
Parts number: ETP321
HACK method, explanation, work procedure, etc.
In my case, I diverted my used caliper, so I overhauled it before I installed the caliper, replaced the gaskets, etc. I replaced the brake pads that were included in it with a new one. In case you're wondering, I chose RK's Mega Alloy brake pads. The caliper can be bolt-on. As for the connection to the brake hose, the position of the brake hose was changed from the original OEM brake hose, so I changed to a direct connection type adapter because the hose was too clumpy for the original banjo adapter.
HACK's summary
As a result of this replacement, the dissatisfaction I had with the OEM calipers has been eliminated. With the NISSIN 4POT, the front brakes work better and control is improved. Also, the air venting was much easier than the original OEM caliper. At first glance, I like the lack of a sense of doing that it was attached from the beginning since it is a used caliper. As a sequel, I got a used rear caliper that was attached to DAEG and replaced it.
